TheWatShot Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 I'm guessing after getting our fingers burnt with the Auburn and Arizona games we decided to dial it back a bit. Not going to be fun times around here when we hit the new year and Purdue has a better record than us with a tougher schedule. AH1971, AZ Hoosier and IUFAN1976 2 1 Quote

First Woodson gets his billionaire buddies to buy him a team, and then he gets the university to buy him a schedule full of cupcakes. How low will he go? IUFAN1976 1 Quote

People are going to be jumping off the basketball team's strength and conditioning coach? That'd be awkward. 8bucks and Class of '66 Old Fart 2 Quote
CSP Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I still don't understand why basketball has any exhibitions, let alone two. Quote

Just a few years ago the Power teams engaged in vague "secret scrimmages" and now they are full blown charity events. I'm not completely against it, but an odd dynamic. At this rate, in a couple years there will be a full blown pre-season like the NFL. Quote

The NFL is getting away from exhibitions because of CTE and such. But in basketball? Less injury risk and a chance to try combinations of players against high-level competition without it affecting your record, all while raising $100k+ for charity? Seems like a winner to me. Quote

I basically just think out-of-conference CBB schedules are boring. Why don't Indiana and Tennessee just play each other? lol 2 exhibitions and then 7 more games against Delaware State type schools.... it just bores the heck out of me. To each their own. Quote

Because most coaches are scared to death to play other high major teams during the regular season. Playing in an exhibition game gives those coaches a chance to play the high major teams without worrying about adding an L to their record. Most coaches dream. Playing high competition that challenges your team with no fear of a loss. Stuhoo 1 Quote

And it sucks @$$ for fans. lol ... because that should be done vs. Eastern ILL... but with the computer/kenpom BS... we have to worry about the margin of victory with those teams. Crazy model. I'm sorry but that answer, while it is correct, is lame (not you) the fact that is the answer to that question. 9 games that are exhibitions/against Delaware St-ish teams .... is BORING. Plus 3 of those 9 are either on Sunday or Thurs... No chance I'm missing football for those games. If we were playing a decent team those nights, I probably would, or at least would have a separate TV running. The sport that needs an exhibition is football, not basketball. Quote

I will watch any IU basketball game over a football game every time. The last two years IU played on a Sunday where the Colts had a chance to clinch a playoff spot and I watched the IU game. Scotty R Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I see no downside in playing exhibition games because it gives the players a chance to get live action without worrying about the results. It isn't like they are going to start the season any earlier so what is the problem of playing exhibition games. Quote
