its been going on for eternity in college basketball and for the most part those dropping the biggest bags are winning the most games. 

I can pretty much assure you if we stop dropping bags the fanbase will have a lot more to worry about than we already do.

id recommend embracing it and just leaving it out of the equation. It’s been a part of high level recruiting forever and now it just expands into mid level recruiting as well. 

Be happy we can compete in that for now and cross your fingers the staff uses its salary cap wisely. 

You, Sir, have got it. The only difference between now and 40 years ago is that every school’s in the game now and there are market forces in play. There needs to be some regulatory pieces implemented on the unrestrained transfers and I don’t love what’s inevitably gonna happen to mid-majors, but this feels better to me.

That’s a good point. I think im being too negative on Rice. You’re right, with only Gallo and a rehabbed Newton, we don’t have any other dynamic ball handlers/defenders.

It’s incredible what modern basketball (spacing) can provide to a team. I personally don’t like the Ballo / Malik fit on offense. But if Malik can step outside and play a bit out there this season, that’s interesting. 
 

But as I mentioned, Rice instead of Johnson should be an upgrade when you’re rolling with a lineup of Rice/Trey/Mack/Tucker/MR. That’s assuming these guys can hit the 3 consistently and key words - more frequently.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, that kid addresses a lot of needs and makes you better and I’m down. But I just know there’ll be some game where there up 1 under 30secs and they can’t get him subbed and all 5 kids on the other team are fouling him simultaneously and I’m going to be sitting chanting 1.2 mil over and over.

You're right.  That could, maybe even likely happen... 

But being up with 1.5mins to go would be a nice change of pace ;)

I love Conwell as much as anyone. But i think having Carlyle + Hickman > Just Conwell

Pure speculation but Rice and Carlyle are boys and I think KC is one of the reason rice was inclined to come to IU.

having Hickman and gallo as your guards off the bench (could be KC too ig) would be amazing.

Rice, Kanaan, Hickman and Ballo would be a haul. You add everything that IU needs at the moment : rebounding, three point shooting, dynamic ball handlers, toughness and scoring.

But I suppose now that programs are establishing a GM role, being able to trade kids is the next logical step. “Hey, I’ll trade you Ballo for Payne and a 90% free throw shooter. We can make the numbers work.”

Now, if Woodson wants to risk his job giving minutes to non-producing players, that’s on him. But I doubt even Woodson is going to play someone just because he was “promised” minutes.

Gotta get a cap in play in the future and regulation applicable across D1. This unregulated wild west will kill mid-majors fast. Sure I’m glad IU has NIL money but man this is bad overall for the college game and needs fixing soon. Cant say I have the answers but hope we see progress in the right direction soon

Haven't seen him play a lick, so can't make a fair judgement, but those trying to explain away his poor 3pt shooting by freshman wall or except for... are being disingenuous.
