Transfer Portal w IU Interest

He’s taking the visit. My assumption is the same. There are still plenty in the portal but I think money and playing time just aren’t enough for these top prospects. DD has to prove he can win and put IUBB on an upward trajectory before we can compete with these top programs for sought after portal prospects.

Mike Woodson sucked and he could.

Don’t really care who ddv prioritizes in the way of players and coaches. The concern lies with the fact he isnt closing on the guys he wants.

I think right now we have lost only two so far in Conwell and Dix

His resume is impressive though. The dude wins. Get a bunch if 3 stars and have a couple 4 mixed in and he will be just fine. If he had the transfer hail Florida just won a title with, many of the fanbase would be up in arms that he can’t recruit. Recruiting will be just fine, especially next year. People need to step off the ledge. The staff was just completed within the last 48 hours.

We're a mess, he's stumbled out of the gate with the staffing. He didn't want to be sitting their working phones with Drew and Nick Norton. I think he believed he had an all-star staff locked up and they used him for a pay raise. Chester Fraiser with him last year was a big deal. Kenny will catch up. We need bodies. Then there will be some dudes late in the cycle that are difference makers, maybe backing out of the draft, and we can blow 5m on two of them.

To hell with Wilkerson there are plenty of shooters out there.

Well, of course that needs to happen at some point in the near future butt……he just got here.  Most likely trying to filter thru a ton of years of baggage this program has assembled and honing in on a structure that will work and be sustainable year in and year out.  Can’t just wave a magic wand.

You can wave the almighty dollar and sell a vision. That IS his job or his assistants, which he couldn’t convince either. He came to Indiana to have the resources to compete at a higher level.

He clearly missed on his assistant targets. Now he’s clearly missing on his lead targets in the portal.

There are plenty of red flags early.

According to this article four,, not 5, are from A&M
  1. Isaiah Watts, 4-star CG - Washington State
  2. Myles Rice, 4-star CG - Indiana
  3. David Coit Jr., 4-star PG - Kansas
  4. Pharrel Payne, 4-star C - Texas A&M
  5. Elijah Saunders, 4-star SF - Virginia
  6. Andre Mills, 4-star SG - Texas A&M
  7. Solomon Washington, 4-star SF - Texas A&M
  8. George Turkson Jr., 3-star SF - Texas A&M

DD’s son followed him but none of his players or 4 star recruits. Why?
That gives me slight “pause”. Again, it only takes a few more signees, which will happen, to probably make the angst go away.
The reason it doesn't give me pause is that he was only there a year and brought them on board before the season. It's not like he had years at WV to instill his culture and have any kind of loyalty with his players. They were 1 year rentals for him....

Noticing the same patterns that have become cyclical with Indiana Basketball and its fans.

New coach is hired. Some red flags start to raise, regarding whether coach is able to have success. Some fans make mention of their concern. Others (usually the same exact people as times past) shame and gaslight them into believing everything is fine and they have no basis to have concern.

rinse… repeat.

People came to this board and many others and stated openly that Dolson had a goal to make this hire prior to the portal opening.

Here we are WEEKS after the opening and we have  a total of 4 players on our roster. We’ve whiffed on guys we’ve prioritized. Players and coaches.

Wilkerson leaves campus and visits UK, our chances to land him become slim to none. Anyone in sales understands this.

There is a very real possibility that we end up with a roster that is worse than WVU’s from last season.

We couldn’t be off to a worse start.

but yeah…. Convince yourself that we are somehow going to pull a Florida and win a natty without reeling in any of our prioritized targets.
how many guys did Goldin prioritize last year and flat out whiff on? Curious to know.

Not counting Tucker it’s hard for me to gloss over the fact no players or recruits from WVU wanted to come with the pt and $$ we offer.

I agree there are some red flags. But there are also other recent examples (Michigan last year) suggesting that we can still field a successful team out of the portal despite our relative lack of players at the stage.

So in my mind, the (apparent) struggles are definitely something to watch, but I'm going to give DDV a full season and recruiting cycle before getting too concerned.

Besides, it's not like there are any other options at this point but to wait and see...

While Wilkerson hasn’t, Dix and Conwell have.

So we missed on two and hit on two Enright and Bailey. Actually 3 but we know you won't give credit for Devries

You sound like the impatient and unreasonable IU fans that Matt Painter talked about.

The Conwell one sucked because there was some early noise about the time we thought Murphy and Moikobu were going to be the big boys in the recruiting room. But Adam's got him on campus. We do what we always do and get our hopes up and Conwell commits to Louisville 24 hours later, like he stopped off in Bloomington to pi55 on his way there and we end up without a staff. Dix was the biggest bag chaser of all. Sick mom and he visits a few schools to secure a closing price wtf?

I'm not sure DD should get too much rope for the staff thing. That's pretty important when you take a job.

Are we supposed to throw coach a party for landing a role player from the second worst team in the Big East? And if you can’t understand why Tucker isn’t being touted as a recruiting win then idk what to tell you. He’s a great player, but it’s not like DD went head to head against the top dogs to land him.
