What's your question?

Mike Woodson was entering year 4 with a solid core returning on top of a monster on paper portal class.

We aren't anywhere close to there with DeVries. Apples to Oranges bud.

Read it again big guy, didn’t ask a question. Just noting your continued inconsistent analysis when it comes to Woodson vs his successor.
DeVries needs to build a culture, sure. Didn’t see you hammering that point after last season when CMW tore apart whatever culture the program had left.

Wrong! The fans didn’t run any coaches off this team, the AD did.

Please tell me which one of our previous coaches shouldn’t have been fired when they were?

Firing coaches every 4-5 years speaks to the non-existent culture that has been IU basketball the last 25 years.

Don't know how many different ways to say it.

It was?

Yea.  Going into Year 3 Woody got a raise a few batted an eye at that.  Everyone was excited for the season and thought we had a great shot at McNeely, Boogie, and Queen.

The Fire Mike Woodson thread didn't appear here until February 2024.

Has nothing to do with anything I posted lol. I'm never going to yell "Fire X coach" after year 1. It's a nonsensical exercise. I believed Woodson had too much talent to fail last year....clearly I was wrong and I owned that months ago yet you still bring it up. But I also very clearly said last summer that it was his prove it or else year.

I don't owe you s*** lol. If you think firing a coach every 4-5 years is somehow going to erase 30+ years of mediocrity I don't know what else to tell you.

We beat Purdue and won at MSU which is probably one of the better wins of the year. We were 2nd right behind WVU as the most egregious tourney snubs.

WVU basically had a nearly identical year to us last year by the numbers, with the caveat they had worse injury luck. Nobody will be happy with that type of season, nor should they be.

Whilst they rebuilt WVU.

Indiana came in as the off season champs and failed miserably.

Now we're WVU. People are panicking that we haven't won the portal championship and we're building a roster from nothing, and we're going to be pissed if we aren't world beaters? Yeah, it'll suck. But it needs to be gauged in context.

The closest one would have been Crean, one year removed from a Sweet Sixteen, with a team that had been ranked #3 early in the year, and with what would have been a strong recruiting class coming in. Understand why they did it at the time, but hindsight says pretty clearly that that year was not the one to move on from a coach.

Good thing we’ve literally only fired the last two guys after 4 years then?

Davis - 6. Sampson 1.5 and to your broader point I’m sure the way IU handled that situation made them less attractive to good candidates. Crean - 9 years.

Archie got 4 years, so Mike got 4 years. If DDV goes after 4 years, you may start having a point here, but I think he’s going to be here at least 5 or 6 years.

People want to restore the old IU basketball culture so badly they can’t begin to imagine a new one and how it gets built.

Let DDV cook and hope it’s worth the wait. Enjoy the process. People can keep their personal standards and expectations where they are while recognizing that’s an ambition for the program as it stands today. The fanbase will absolutely support a coach who demonstrates progress to that end - Crean’s first three years were terrible and hardly anyone said boo because they were willing to cut him some slack.

Patience is wearing thin but we hired a winner. People’s relationship with IUBB will be different for the better in a few years I think / hope / pray.

IU is on their 6th coach in 25 years. Do the math. Everybody else outside the IU network, including prospective coaches, have.

It is what it is.

Well it goes on the NCAA record so they count

Do you deny that Woodson was not at all on the hot seat after season 2 and, in fact, had a high fan approval?

His first 2 seasons:

  1. 11 seed play-in game. Lost in Round of 64
  2. 4 seed. Lost in Round of 32

You say that fans wouldn't be happy right now with Knight's last 5 years? Let's look at those:

  1. 6 seed. Lost in Round of 64
  2. 9 seed. Lost in Round of 64
  3. 7 seed. Lost in Round of 32
  4. 6 seed. Lost in Round of 32
  5. 6 seed. Lost in Round of 64

Or regular season. Let's look at those.

Woodson:

  1. 21-14, 9-11 (9th)
  2. 23-12, 12-8 (T-2)

Knight:

  1. 19-12, 12-6 (T-2)
  2. 22-11, 9-9 (T-6)
  3. 20-12, 9-7 (T-5)
  4. 23-11, 9-7 (T-3)
  5. 20-9, 10-6 (T-5)

IU was easily in the field each of Knight's last 5 years, compared to only 1 year for Woodson since they snuck in his first year. Since those results were good enough for Woodson's first 2 years, I stand by that right now fans would be happy just making the tournament every year. Sure, if it got to year 4 or 5 without getting to the second weekend fans would start to get antsy but the point is that isn't the expectation right now. It seems to me that right now the expectation is to get back to making the tournament regularly then build from there.

No idea about Woodsons “approval rating” (do they have those for basketball coaches? Lol) but broadly speaking people were definitely cautiously optimistic. There were questions post TJD but Ware was exciting and Boogie, Liam, Queen would’ve been a hell of a class. We heard so much about Banks and Gunn, but they didn’t pan out here. Seeing what they did this year, wild to think what that team could have been because there was certainly more talent on it than we got out of it.

Believe it or not, most of the country doesn't view Indiana and West Virginia that different.

Probably true...but most of the country can't find Canada on a map, make change from a cash register or understand the difference between "literally" and "figuratively" among many other short-comings.

Doesn't change IU's portal success, but people are pretty dumb.

The elusive Scotty R double whammy! Both blame the fans and question why anyone would want to come to IU in the same post.

If he had worked in that he never fell for any of the Stevens hype then we would have had a Scotty R bingo. The reward is an honorary IU East degree.
