The post was about Dix, Kansas said his price was too steep for them

It’s tough with the guys like Dix who have one year to get paid big before what are likely less lucrative pro careers.  Get the big payday while you can makes sense.

I could see Illinois meeting his ask, they like to spend big in the portal.

Agreed, I think that ends up being the move.  Goode is enough like Dix?  Not really but....

He went to dinner with Conwell and took pictures in full uniform with Enright so I think he is doing what he can

Possibly would have been more effective if he'd went to dinner with Conwell in full uniform and took pictures with Enright.    ;)

Well, we did too last year... let's get us a team, pay what we have to, and fire this mother up!

Kansas fan-site states that Flory portaling was more about his not-great relationship with Self than about money.

That’s an interesting read. If it’s accurate and the relationship piece is really an issue having Adams on staff would seem like a pretty strong piece of leverage.

I did not realize what Flory’s stats looked like for the games KJ Adams was hurt. Get him a summer in the gym and he might be the most important piece of the puzzle. I think he’s maybe one that I would overpay for just based on his ceiling.

If we are going to shoot a lot of threes and try to play faster, having a high flying, dunking, shot blocking big is so key to capitalize on the perimeter gravity.

Add in a strong agile offensive rebounder.  He’s excellent for 41 offense.

That’s not how it works. You have to pay your own guys too. You have to pay to retain good players. Assuming IUs budget is one of the tops in the country Lville doesn’t have any more money to offer someone like Conwell. They just choose to pay him more.

You did not comprehend what I said, they have a roster.  They already know what the guys on it cost now.  They know how much they have to spend total and they can make their decisions accordingly.  If the guys staying didn't portal, they also probably are back for a similar amount as last year.

Indiana has 3 guys on a roster.  They have to get 12 more guys, and they don't exactly know what those 12 guys are going to cost them.  So to be competitive next year they have to at minimum probably get 8 rotation guys through recruitment and portal.  They blow a big chunk on one guy (more than they wanted to) then who do they not get?  That uncertainty would make them more disciplined early obviously.  They also know who else they want that's not in the portal, and how much roughly those guys will cost them

There is no "hard cap" in all of NCAA, but each school absolutely has one that they set themselves.  We are just lucky we are in the high end.

The numbers do matter if we have him valued around 2, and they give him 4, then it's a no brainer.  Let him go.  If we are talking we offered 1.8 and they offered 2, then there's some room for debate on the merits, but one guy going somewhere else before the season is even over in early April is nothing to even get concerned about.

I think he is a good player but he isn't worth breaking the bank  for him.

I don't know if he's the guy, but this could very well be the last round of this wild portal money stuff.  The conferences are tired of it.
