I don’t think he’d have the energy and work ethic to do all the job requires.  But who knows.

I doubt Donovan is still out there in the interested category, since he's still coaching the Bulls, but the guy was outstanding at Fla and has been pretty good in the NBA . I'd be all in for him.

And as you all know, I have always been a major fan of this gentleman:

Would think it’s entirely possible he ends up back in Indiana very soon. Just not at Indiana.

Names I've seen mentioned:

Alan Huss

Bucky McMillan

Wow, Huss is going pretty deep in the weeds on someone’s part. Like it.
Gotta say, if and when an actual hiring process is live it is going to be entertaining as hell around here. Moreso than the last 2 hires, which were fun in their own rights. I mean, we’re 4 months out from there even being an actual opening and the 4 names being pre-pitched with the most frequency are: 1) a guy who 9 months ago 99% of fans had never heard of and was coaching in a 2K seat gym, 2) a guy who’s currently 11 games into a new job, 3) a guy who hasn’t coached in college in 10 years, hasn’t coached at all in 3, and we have been collectively punching ourselves in the face over for years, and 4) an almost comically corrupt dude in his mid-60’s who’s trying to leverage his son a job.

It’s gonna be insanity, which will be so much freaking fun.

I believe that was @Stuhoo.

I'm more interested in seeing the new names that come up rather than the 3 retreads you mentioned above. McCollum is a (mostly) new name but he already has his own thread.

We already have a couple of interesting names and there will probably be 1 or 2 more to add before the end of the season. There usually is a late season darling or two.

I personally arrived at Huss as a viable choice and posted it, but I have absolutely zero notion that Alan Huss is on Scott Dolson or anyone else's radar.

However, Alan Huss' resume is truly outstanding, maybe/probably above and beyond the resume of either McCollum or McMillan. All three have absolutely crushed it at their current mid-major/D2 stops, but in addition:

  • Huss has very strong State of Indiana ties; the other two do not.
  • Huss has top tier prep school recruiting ties; the other two do not.
  • Huss played high-level D1 ball (at Creighton); the other two did not.
  • Huss has been a P5 top assistant for over five years, including at Creighton for multiple years with modern offense and some really successful teams. Neither McMillian nor McCollum have ever been at a P5 school; not as player, coach, grad assistant, nor as an assistant coach.

So admittedly, Alan Huss is purely an @Stuhoo invented rumination, but tell me why he is not an extraordinary P5 coaching upcoming candidate?

Here’s a name nobody is talking about that may also be a coaching upgrade: Shooter Flatch.

My Mom probably watched 100 games of mine and the only basketball play she knew was the freaking picket fence.

You may be on to something.  37-11 in his college coaching career to date.  Digging into the losses, these are the margins of defeat:  1, 2, 5 (OT), 8, 5, 5 (OT), 2, 1 (OT), 10 (2023 CBI championship game), 10, 4

We will have to have a strong face of the program, a high level tactician as an assistant and someone that can recruit the region. Al Huss checks alot of those boxes himself. I think Sherron Wkerson would make a dynamite #3 in the Walsh slot.

I do look to see us have an official GM named in the off season.

Coaching searches have provided me with more entertainment than the basketball that follows them.

I say Alan Huss nuthin’ on Greg Tongal.

I don’t think the coaching name matters. Just get a solid coach who coaches the modern game. Then have a GM and NIL in place to go execute the recruiting. IU will always have a baseline level of talent because of NIL. So get a great college coach.
