I cannot see anything being done after a win.  I still think he finishes out the season.  But if something does happen it will be after a loss.

At worst Woody has a winning 5-4 conference record going into the Maryland game at home.  If he wants to coach, and he will, I can’t imagine IU not letting him, especially with Quinn and Steve around.  He’s still trying to save his season.

Nothing was going to be done today. Might not happen after that epic win last night haha but it’s needs to be done. He thinks we’re good at 14-5, thinks we’ve played good basketball. He will get booed off the court after the next 20 point loss. But our administration will probably sit on their hands even though they have a plan in place.

The most interesting part of the rest of the season is going to be how the crowd at Assembly Hall acts, lol

I think I've got all the stages of this process figured out:

1) We get embarrassed, fans are pissed, we all want Woodson gone right away.

2) Our insiders/whisperers start telling us things we want to hear, leaving us eager for more and hopeful a change is coming.

3) The team picks up an unexpected, ugly win. 

4) Our insiders/whisperers start walking back what they've said. 

5) We prepare for the next inevitable beatdown. 

 

Looks like we're at #4.

So there's a contingent that thinks he's done after this weekend, and I've seen a few who think he's done before the next home game. Most of us are still thinking he gets the full season. And then you have the few who think he'll somehow still be here a year from now.

Exactly. 
I’m confident Woody won’t be here next year because I’m confident he can’t get a team to the second weekend in March. 
We’ll probably lose at NW, but beat a similarly flawed Maryland team at home. There will be some road beat downs along the way but there’s a path to 10-11 conference wins and a quick tourney exit. 
 

After that, things will start moving. I’m going to try to stay outta this thread until something is actually announced by the school.

I would guess there was a lot of groundwork laid this week to potentially pull the lever when the time is right. Line up the interim, who’s the 3rd assistant after that domino, make sure the president and other key stakeholders (BoT reps, money folks) understand.

Time could’ve been right this weekend if the team no-showed again last night at OSU. There’s lots of frustration with Woody on this board and elsewhere, but it’s still a bad look for a program legend to face a hostile environment at home games. Even if he wants to keep coaching, in some way you’re protecting him a little too if he isn’t embarrassed by Dusty May, booed, chanted at.

So sure, part of the plan was lining things up for when/if you pull the lever during the season. The much bigger problem is who’s the next coach, though, so don’t get too hung up when we win. For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t worry that there’s really anything that can save him beyond the year.

Seth Davis’s newsletter this morning said “there is a widespread assumption in the sport that this will be Woodson’s final season in Bloomington.” You don’t have to like Davis to know he’s plugged in.

Also note Stevens’ non-denial last April to Davis’ suggestion that he’d be interested in returning to coach at IU: https://www.si.com/nba/celtics/brad-stevens-addresses-rumors-of-leaving-celtics-for-college-coaching-job

(Two tidbits from that piece: 1. Funny that Steven’s talks about “getting over the hump” and 2. Boston got over the hump)

If Stevens is option A, B, and C — and you don’t have to think he’s likely in order to think that Dolson will make him say no — then the timing isn’t very important; I doubt he’s coming back to college for a random B12 job. Heck, as USPS noted, IU looks like the only premium job coming available this cycle, so even if it’s not Stevens, timing may not be crucial.

If Quinn Buckner lets Mike Woodson walk back into Assembly Hall to get booed relentlessly for an entire season… who needs enemies with friends like that… maybe Woody has some sort of kink for being hated and doesn’t mind as long as the checks keep clearing and wine keeps flowing lol. We know he doesn’t get too upset about losing anyways.

I honestly doubt Assembly Hall will be full enough for it to matter. Especially a noon Sunday game

You saw it last night in the game, but an added dynamic to this is there are players who still clearly like playing for Woody and all this noise does nothing but motivate them to play harder and want to prove all the haters wrong.  Us against them mentality can really work for a short period.

Yeah I really think it just depends on results and optics; if they’re 6-3 coming into a home game vs Maryland, I don’t think it changes whether he’s the coach next year, but it probably doesn’t look great to can him.

Now, if you lose an ugly one at Northwestern, maybe that’s the tipping point. You’d still be 5-4 but it would maybe save an ugly scene with a program legend at home, and you could make the case the team still has something to play for but needs new leadership. My hunch is the win last night might have bought him a home game unless Tuesday is embarrassing, though.

Yeah for Maryland... Purdue and Michigan have all time humiliating moments for the program written all over it though if Woody is still coaching.
