Tremendous NIL support and his team just got blown out by 30 at home.

This was a Top 20 pre season ranked team and a Big Ten favorite in the top half.

Mike Woodson failed once again, for the 4th straight year.

What benefit to the program would exist by firing him now? How would that improve the program in the near term, which is the only real impact it would have. Would we be more competitive? Win more games? Serve the interests of the players?

From my standpoint it would help to resolve the current apathy around the program. I doubt it saves this season but getting the fan base re-energized, and having the coaching search start in earnest now rather than in 2 months, has obvious benefits for next season and beyond.

“Visceral” again.
Just call us troglodytes and be gone. You add nothing here

I use the term because it’s accurate. I understand what some here want and I understand the “I’m hearing” gossip, though. We all want an elite program again, so the emotion is understandable.

And again I just gotta get these guys to play harder. I got Malik hurt. We had good looks they just didn't go down.

Visceral is not accurate. Wanting a change is NOT a knee-jerk reaction. It's NOT a gut reaction. It's NOT an emotional reaction. It's NOT a reaction that lacks intelligence.

Even wanting a change now (though I don't think it will happen) is none of those things.

We saw large swaths of the fanbase evacuating AH before halftime and “Fire Woodson” chants breaking out all over.

SmughwithanS would have you believe these were “visceral”, and these fans’ opinions/behaviors don’t matter.

The call to fire Woodson isn’t new though so it’s not as “visceral” as your posting suggests. Many wanted him gone a year ago, recent performance has simply given us more conviction that getting rid of him is what’s best for the program.

That’s not visceral, it’s logical.

Not sure why this thread is so active… Kathy has made it pretty clear. We’re supposed to sit here stone faced until the end of the year and mindlessly say “go IU” the whole time… anything else is patently absurd and overly emotional. Lol

I think we all see the writing on the wall. Mike Woodson will not be the head coach next season, it’s all but a done deal at this point.

Have said nothing of the sort, though I have said there’s a process as to how this will get done, and people are angry about that reality.

The odds are high that firing him now would produce a worse, not better, record over the balance of the season. Interim coaches rarely produce better results. The energy around the program will rebound when a new coach is named, and that’s not happening for a couple of months, at the earliest. Even with a mid-season dismissal, they aren’t getting traction on a replacement until the season ends. Nobody in an existing job is interviewing now. Those are the only obvious things at this point.
