You must not have been good in math.

0 doubled is still 0 :)

Trent Sisley signed back in November. But maybe we shouldn't give Woodson any credit there, because he was probably coming to IU no matter what.

Woodson didn’t even want to coach when IU hired him in terms of love and passion and drive and ability.

Sure he wanted to be in a status position joining the club taking all that was is given to him that goes with such a job.  Great player but not a coach nor a leader nor a competent representative for a major college basketball program like IU.

He don’t want to coach now either!  He just wants the status, money, perks, etc that comes with the job.  He’s definitely hurt his legacy, whatever the heck that was, and he’s a despicable human being, IMO

Even for this thread, that's a terrible post.

Seriously?  I can’t win with any of you!  He’s taken advantage of the University, won’t support other athletic departments, avoids other responsibilities.  So if someone steals a large amount of money from many elderly people, wouldn’t categorize him as a despicable human being?

I think he likes being called the king of indiana. But I get the impression he thinks he is like coach k in his later years when it comes to recruiting. People will just flock here. But he hasn't won national titles.

This follow-up post is also terrible.

  • He's a basketball coach. They always get paid really well.
  • You don't like the way he coaches the team? Okay - sure.
  • He's not "stealing a large amount of money from elderly people."

If the team won 25 games last year he'd be the same flawed coach yet you wouldn't be saying this.

Yeesh. Get some perspective.

Woodson’s probably an alright guy off the court. The players he does get to come to IU seem to like him enough. The way he’s approached the IU head coaching position and everything that comes with it has been a total disgrace, though.

Except for the part about him being a terrible human being, his post is 100% spot on.

Woodson has shattered whatever legacy he had. To fans under 45, we have no recollection of Mike Woodson the guy who played under Bob Knight and won a title. So he was only a "former great player" to me.

Now, to me and an entire generation of IU fans, it's no longer "former IU great Mike Woodson". Instead it's "the guy in way over his head".

I suppose I can't speak for everyone though, only myself.

Oh for sure - those under the age of 40 are now in danger of most likely remembering him as a failed coach at IU, albeit one who had a reputation as a great player at IU.

The parts of the posts that I took exception to were "despicable human being" that "steals a large amount of money from elderly people."

That's an awful, ridiculous thing to say.

How are we defining ‘despicable human being’? Does he put others first or think primarily about himself? Does he work hard or is he a free-loader? Is he kind and considerate or is he thoughtless and cruel?

I don’t know him, personally, and my view is shaped largely by what others say. Can anyone vouch for his character personally?

Well the other poster, with no basis whatsoever, stated that he steals large amounts of money from the elderly.

As for me? Anecdotally, I have met Coach Woodson once, in the lobby of the Union when he was walking in with Kanaan Carlyle and his mom during their official visit last April. Was with a group of four or five middle aged alumni and came up to them to wish them well. Mike Woodson could not have been more gracious and made a point of letting us speak freely to a recruit with no restrictions, and then chatted us up for a minute to point out that alums and fans are what make IU as great as it is and it's always a pleasure to have recruits unexpectedly meet people on campus.

And this was a month after the end of last season when IU fans and Coach Woodson were at their saltiest. The guy deeply loves IU; it's just that he likely isn't working out as the basketball coach.

I think he’s stealing money from all of us!  But I’ll restrain my harsh comments because I respect you Stuhoo, but I don’t respect MW!

Yes it is and I think he’s disgraced us fans, the university and program, IMO but I’m probably being to harsh again

I have a background that attaches criminal culpability to words like "stealing," so that type of language tends to get me barking back.

Appreciate the kind words and you are more than welcome to post your unrestrained opinions! ...but I'm allowed to bark back  :)

I just can’t square his “deep love” for IU with the effort he puts into his job.

Chalk it up to 'people are often tricky, complicated, contradictory, tone-deaf, and sometimes just plain weird.'

Anyone under 50 really . There may be a few older fans who still cherish Woodson the player but they are probably in their 70's. I'm old enough to remember the old on court camera angle, which was really cool. But I'm not old enough to remember the king.

This is most likely true being close to the situation. IU got Trent and it wasn’t because Woodson. I firmly believe if Woodson leaves Trent still comes.

Thanks for weighing in Dillion.

Not surprised to read this, but good to see you saying it.
