If the third is who I suspect it is, why bother? Once a nasshole, always a masshole.

I really fear our choices in a year will be limited, with no consensus preferred candidate.

We'll end up hiring Alford.  It's gonna be so bad no one else will take the job.

Oats just signed a massive contract at Bama. Their board of regents have to approve it still but it’s going to make him a top 5 paid coach I believe I heard. So he isn’t leaving.

That's my point.  Why would he?  Because we have so many true fans?

I'm a little down at this point but this really wouldn't even surprise me

This will probably not be well-received... but in my mind, we have two options:

1) mid-major coach with proven success / resume (May, Schertz, etc)

2) high-major coach who doesn't have the proven success / resume, but has the traits and qualities which would lead us to believe he could and would succeed here (Shrews, etc)

Option 3 of a P5 coach with proven success will never exist unless it's a very rare circumstance. Even then, I'd bet against it. The way SEC / football schools have started investing in basketball (with facilities, NIL resources, huge salary pool for HC & assistants, etc) over the last decade or so (while still having limited fanbase pressure) makes our job more and more ordinary.

You don't have to love May, Schertz, or Shrewsberry. They all come with risk. But if we're gonna sit around waiting for the perfect candidate, we're gonna be stuck in neutral for a long time.

Where does the Iowa State coach fit in this.  P5 coach with similar level of success as May, Schertz?

It really wouldn't.  Dolson loves him and Quinn hates him.  Quinn will be out of the picture next year.

I wish Alford would have recognized the problem with how he handled the PP situation at Iowa and worked to make some amends publicly.  Admit he was blinded by loyalty to player and incorrectly assumed things he should not have blah blah blah.  I don't think he would be a high end coach here but I think he could be more steady that Crean with those same levels of peaks every so often.

Hoping for better though

It's absolutely ridiculous.

You don't ask someone to retire. You either make them or fire them.

You either reach out to coaches or you don't. You don't ask if we think about making our crappy coach retire would you be interested in our job.

The whole thing is a clown show

Dolson needs to grow a pair and make a move now -- by tournament's end.  Ramifications be dammed.  Fk Buckner, BOT, and any other POS interfering with the program.

The P5 part who just won the BIG 12 championship sets him apart from the other two.

He would be high on my list of "getable" P5 guys. Hasn't really coached east of the Mississippi but is from Wisconsin. I think he is a star in the making.

They won't care next year if it is a proven guy or not. They only cared that it was a proven guy to take over for Woodson this year.

Quinn is going to let them hire whoever they want next time. It could be a high school kid

Don't give them any ideas.

Good morning Hoosiers!

GOOD NEWS: Indiana won't get blown out AGAIN in the NCAA tournament for a third straight year.

BAD NEWS: Mike Woodson will be the head coach for one more year.

I'm expecting a couple transfers today, I've been checking the portal and I haven't seen them yet. But then again, it's too early for Mike Woodson to be telling kids they're gone.

If you make the job so bad, you can always say no one else wants it.

Honestly it could be worse.  I would never advocate for hiring him in a million years but if Woody leaves the cupboard bare (likely) and all the the P5 coaches say no and it's him or the next mid-major of the month it might be the best option.  Let he and maybe Fife run things for a while and see what happens.  Who's to say they wouldn't have some success.  Would definitely be an upgrade from Woody and Archie.  Now let's all pray it never comes to that.

Did you read the OPs post i responded to? He did not seem to account for a young P5 coach just starting to have success, especially at a school that is not a typical power house. I agree he does not match those lower level guys but there are guys like him that are different from P5 guys with more sustained success.
