They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Can you imagine that at IU though.

TBH I don't know a ton about life around Btown aside from obvious college lifestyle. I do know that if he came and won big and then told fans about Jesus Christ in the presser that attendance would go up on Sunday's in Indiana

At one time I had heard we did or were going to. But never heard anything else. The Pearl stuff has just overtaken everything. Everyone is so on Pearl, Dolson could line up Phil Jackson and people wouldn't know.

I do know that the super sub former player who owns a restaurant here in town has been pushing Drew to Dolson. He wants him because he's a "good Christian coach"

So would this former player be against hiring Bruce Pearl or Josh Schertz since both are Jewish?

I think Cronin’s a really good coach who’s a really bad temperamental fit. That guy is not wired to be under a microscope like this one.

Is Bruce Pearl? He’s been at basketball backwaters his entire career where his energy and quirky personality play to his advantage. Much like Crean, I’m not sure it’s the best trait for a place like IU.

I kinda think the same.

People on here keep saying that we should get Pearl for 6-7 years, then go get Dusty May after he's picked up some seasoning at a P5 school and (presumably) had some success. Some seem to think Dusty's a basset hound and if we dangle a cookie -- whether it's now or in 5 years -- he'll come running with his tail wagging and jump right into our laps.

If I'm Dusty and think the time is right to move, I might wait to see what IU does after the season. And if Woody is let go and we move in another direction (i.e. Bruce Pearl), I'm taking the OSU job or Michigan job or Louisville job if offered. And if IU calls me in 5 years, I say "You had your chance."

Don't forget: RMK was an Ohio State guy. He had chances to return to Columbus -- and didn't. It's not like the second we call, Dusty May will drop everything and come running. Especially if we've already passed on him.

If Dusty doesn't want to follow Pearl after 6-7 years that's on him. In the event Pearl comes to IU, hopefully he makes Indiana relevant again by the time he steps down to the point IU gets the pick of the litter. If it's not Dusty May than so be it.

As long as he can coach a game without constantly hiking up his drawers, I can handle it...

No comparison to the personalities of Crean and Pearl. I’ve met annd engaged with both. Bruce is just a good funny dude, ton of energy.  Crean? Let’s just say that after a while you can’t help but get the creeps from him.

Hard to believe BP won’t hit the portal hard for some shooters and have a team ready to compete off the rip if he came. When is the last time Indiana had a knock down shooter?!

That kind of hire would generate some excitement among recruits.

Can we not do this... don't need to bring religion into the mix - pro or con... just get the best basketball coach who can fix/resurrect the Indiana program and move the religion discussion in the "positive only" thread.

Absolutely agree, just saying I disagree with the former player.  Just hire the best coach period if Woody does leave.

IU isn't bringing back Woodson if they can get Pearl. The only way Woodson is back is if Pearl ultimately says no.

Yeah, if they get IU winning then I don't care what space wizard they pray to.

I'm intrigued by the thought of finding a coach that practices Matshishkapeu; the fart god of constipation cure:

Two thoughts:

1) It seems like May is the hot flavor of the month on the coaching carousel. Honest question: how often do those guys work out? My gut says they don't,  more often than not.

2) If key decision makers aren't on board with a coaching change yet, I'm not sure what else they need to see. In which case, every win makes it less likely, IMO.

If every flavor of the month panned out there would be very little coaching turnover at the P5 level of D1 college basketball. For every one that pans out, there's 9 that flop, case in point with so many coaching openings each season.
