Fire (or Force 'Contemplated Retirement') Coach Woodson Thread

No I meant  ones who played at the university that became a coach at said school

It’s hard to imagine knight or smith or rupp would’ve been too much less successful at osu or ku, respectively. But I suppose it’s possible. But in any event, guys like Roy Williams, Eddie Sutton, and even our own branch McCracken have done it successfully in div 1. Countless others at other levels.

Woodsons problem isn’t where he played basketball, but how he coaches basketball.

yes you are right ,I didn't even see him play  but seems he just doesn't know how to coach

Only difference was IU did offer him and was about to get a commitment from him and then Anderson and Hunter committed the next day and Henry went elsewhere

Not really happened that way according to Aaron's dad who I worked with for 7 years.  He said Aaron was never close to committing but after Anderson and Smith committed Archie stopped recruiting him.

Look, as long as Mike is above .500 winning percentage, he's doing his job ok?! Guys got 6 losses in a row he can have before he gets a little nervous about the situation. Even then, he's only 1 win away from a 2 games above .500 record. To him, that breathing room!

Of If I remember correctly Smith’s family told IU ahead of time that if Purdue offers they were going to take it. Trying to get IU to offer. I remember Criss Byers saying IU should be all over this kid.

Painter said today on Dakich Smith accepted the Purdue offer within 48 hours and not because it was Purdue but because they were the only HM. He said it could have been anyone because he was just waiting on a HM offer.

Not a geographic location, but put a copy of Woodson's contract on Armond Hill's napping chair.

Just saying:

Armond Hill’s Napping Chair” would be a great handle to post under.

Would also be an excellent name for a fantasy football team or emo band.

That's not a very good reason for a kid playing in the 2nd best basketball conference in our state and at a time where our guards were trash. You can't miss on Braden Smith if you're Archie.

Not exactly a glowing endorsement.....'kid playing in the second best basketball conference in our state'.  If it's all about just getting kids playing in good basketball conferences in Indiana, then IU was correct in prioritizing C.J. Gunn over him.

Braden Smith was ranked 216th in his class.  Kudos to Painter for seeing something in him that others didn't, but it's not like the kid had any other high major offers.

"If we get in a game and call something and somebody doesn’t know what they’re doing, it’s like, ****, I shouldn’t be coaching."

That's classic!  It would seem he watched the tape.

This from Painter is all you need to know about why Purdue is winning and we are not.  Compare this to Woodson's "our guys are still getting to know one another" last year.

Hammer and Rails had an interesting piece about IU/Purdue. Don't know that I agree about their view of how we recruit/don't recruit the state however. I think we just suck at recruiting the state. They seemed to believe that IU believes they're above recruiting the state

Obviously, Mike Woodson thinks that he’s above it.

I remember Hunter committing the next day but knew that he was coming in a year after Henry.  Forgot about Anderson.  I do recall that it LOOKED like there was going to be a log jam at small forward and that although IU had looked at Henry, wasn't sure they had actually offered.

Man, Damezi Anderson.  Funny thing is scouts LOVED him.  I recall asking someone that had seen him play that season about him and they liked him but they said he was surrounded by immense amount of talent (they won their first 26 games before losing to Carmel at Semi-State, I believe).  Blake Wesley (Notre Dame and now the Spurs) was a freshman on that team and there were at least two other seniors alongside Anderson that played D1.

Damezi was advertised as a great shooter but he couldn’t hit a thing.

I don't know what he shot as a high school senior, but his three point shooting percentage went down each of his first three years of high school -- from 43, to 38, to 35% from three.  I know he averaged 24 ppg as a junior (Riley really pushed tempo and averaged like 75 as a team).

Hunter was the same year as Henry he just had to red shirt his freshman year when he got there

I believe he did.

So did Matt Painter.

From Matt Painter…“I grew up a diehard Indiana fan,” he said. “If Bob Knight would have offered me, it just would have been over.” I was disappointed when he when he went to Purdue.  I thought he could have helped IU at that time.
