Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Exactly, this is what I have been saying. Dolson is smart, I'm sure he sees the same problems we do. But he needs some L's to make the narrative for him, and put pressure on Buckner. Otherwise I'm not sure he will put his career on the line to cross his bosses. If we get a few more losses, I think it's an easier sell. Otherwise, he's not gonna waste all his political capital right now when he could stay safe for another year and make the firing much easier for him after year 4.

That is how I understood it too. Which could be big.

Rabby just posted saying he has heard from reliable and credible people on both sides of this. Some saying he's gone, others saying he will be back.

So he's heard from both The Hatfields and McCoys.

You have to think Woodson wants out at this point as well. His team is allegedly leaving him, his in-season results have been mediocre at best, and the off-season is a grind that takes away from hobbies and family. All of this while a fan base is overwhelmingly imploring the AD to fire/retire him. I know he's fighting it, or someone on his behalf, online due to the new X accounts that are GOING AFTER(!) anyone who mentions Woodson's need for being retired. The bots (not BOTs) are out in full force. Seen it once before... coach gets fired shortly after. Come on Chris make it happen, fire Woodson!

From my understanding as I said earlier today. Woody doesn't even know he is on the hot seat. His assistants are afraid to tell him. As he said last week he looks at himself as an elite coach. He can with any team. Except this one

Correct me if I’m wrong but the “buyout” of another party doesn’t need to come from the hiring institution. That is to say…

Any new coach who moves out of their contract could have their buyout paid for by ANYONE. Perhaps a group of boosters. Check doesn’t have to come from the hiring university.

Technically, I think the contracts normally state that the coach breaking the contract owes the buyout, but the hiring university almost always agrees to pay it.  So, I’d assume anyone could pay it, as long as it gets paid.

That can also be negotiated correct?

Let’s be quite honest here: do you think it would have gotten this far if Scott didn’t think he already had that in place?

You know, Boards are a funny thing.  You think you have supporters until the knives come out.  You just never know until you know.

@Chris007 this is getting a little exhausting I ain’t gonna lie with all that is going on. What is a realistic timeline in your eyes of us knowing what is actually gonna happen? I know if we move on might depend on how Pearl does in the tournament but I believe a decision would leak strongly before he even loses. So we looking at a week after season or two weeks after? What’s your opinion on us seeing some sort of resolution to this circus that is going on or a leaked decision?

If you think this is exhausting.  Just wait til there is actually a coaching hire to make.  Then try to keep up with it all.

Bottom line, if Dolson can get Whitten (his boss) and a majority of Trustee behind him (Whitten's bosses), Buckner can't do squat except cry.

Time for all of us former Kelley kids to start sending emails to our favorite prof Vivian Winston?

It me a second too. I think what he is saying is the first part is correct. But the second part of using the university money to buyout Pearl would have to be approved by the board since it's a certain amount of money. But someone corrects me if I'm wrong. But that is how I read it.
To piggy back....I also think they'd have to approve the new salary as well?

Correct. I believe the exact language is "In the event the Coach terminates the Agreement under the provisions of this Paragraph, Coach or his designee will pay the Coach's Buy-out Amount..."

@Chris007 I'm just coping at this point, but have you heard anything about IU reaching out to Dusty at all? Are we more or less Pearl or bust? Or is Dolson just focused on selling the firing right now?

This really becomes political rather than who out ranks who.  The BOT is a board and requires a certain number of members to agree.  No one person has more of a vote than the other.  But, the Chair always has more persuasion because, well he's the chair.  Whitten serves at the pleasure of the BOT.  They hire and fire her.  So she, at a minimum needs a majority to stand behind her actions.  Dolson, I believe, would be under Whitten -- she would hire/fire, but likely with the Board's approval.  Bottom line, if Dolson can get Whitten (his boss) and a majority of Trustee behind him (Whitten's bosses), Buckner can't do squat except cry.

Well then, let's make him cry!

IU barely makes the cut, but since many Hoosiers fans are clamoring for change, I'll indulge them. I expect Mike Woodson to get a fourth season. He took IU to the NCAAs in his first two years, but it's been really rocky after Trayce Jackson-Davis. With FAU coach Dusty May being a buzzy candidate on this year's carousel, one source put it plainly: "They're scared they're missing on Brad Stevens Part Two."

If he gets boos at home games, has family and friends on X, has a staff/donors that are in contact with him daily... and still doesn't have it figured out he's either A) Oblivious toward the life that surrounds him (no fault there I am as well) B) The most confident man in Indiana

You lose the fan base, it's over. It's QB, AD, and CMWs choice to let it bleed out slowly or pull the plug.

I'd love for him to simply retire. As a man I really enjoy him, he's fun to listen to and he is respectable by all means. I want him to advise and stay around the program, come to games etc - just don't want him to be the head honcho because he's not at the level that I want IU to be at. Certainly someone in his circle can say, "Hey Woody.. The fans really want you gone, your players are transferring away, and you'd enjoy your life much more on a golf course than in an AAU gym this summer"
