Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I trust Dolson on this one
Pre nil Woodson would have already been toast. But when you got guys like quinn and Ferguson with huge influence over boosters it changes the dynamic. Sure dolson can make a move but without money backing him he is limited. The boosters can simply dig in and say Woodson
is our guy and what can he do really. It really is the happy scenario from blue chips

Is kent sterling the most manic person in history. I haven't followed him in years til last week. He went from Woodson has to be fired to this was the greatest win in history. This is comical stuff. Total comedy. So I wonder did the word go out from quinn and crew to tell him to shut up. I think it most 100% did.

Jal, some questioned whether Woodson would survive as head coach after a series of losses. However, in March 2024, it was announced that Woodson would be returning for the 2024-25 season.

Yep still alive and cooking.thanks to quinn.. chill and run it back.

If every internet rumor was true we would be undefeated for decades.

I don't trust the morons in charge.  I'm glad you do.

I don't think they're dumb enough to hire one of these assistants as a full time coach. Do I have any faith they wouldn't completely botch a regular search? No, not after the last 25 years of buffoonery.

Not me.  His behavior during his coaching tenure far exceeds whatever he did as a player long before I was alive.  Same with Buckner.  They're villains in my IU fandom story.  I have no other memories of them.

That's sad but I fully understand how you feel and that's how many will react in the future who never saw either one play in an Indiana University uniform.   They're not leaving a very good legacy behind them.

After this massive failed experiment, the money will be there for Dolson to make the necessary hire. I have no doubt about that...

Regarding star️s and players. There is totally a reason why Tucker, Mbako and Reneau were all available as late spring signees. Everyone else figured out they were overrated, and just wanted the bag. Mercenaries never work long term. There heart just isn’t in it. If Woody had spent more than five minutes working on recruiting he would’ve seen that too- maybe.

Not convinced with the 7 25pt losses we have. Or whatever

They are all Q1 losses as of now.   Committee just sees losses to good teams mostly away from home while the fan invested sees a horrific performance by the team the love.    IU is currently in the last 4 in to first 4 or next 4 out range with the resume they currently have.  Add 5 more Q1 and Q2 wins and they would be closer to the right side then people think or would want.   Bottom of the side lines with those last 4 in teams are always going to have shaky resumes and if IU shows up with no Q3 losses and the amount of Q1 and 2 wins they will have they will be in consideration.  Their resume isn’t comparing with the Auburn, Bama, Duke or anyone on the top of the bracket like it should be it would be compared with teams that will have flaws

I know this post references Dolson not hiring an interim coach, but I'll chime in and say I think Scott can break our losing steak with bball coaches and get the next one right.

Scott has been at IU forever.  Working at IU isn't exactly the ideal place to learn how to be a great AD, but it appears he's figured it out over the past few years, sometimes the hard way unfortunately, but that's life.  I know he constantly seeks to learn more from more experienced ADs at other schools and he keeps in touch with coaching targets well in advance of coaching searches (/wink).  That's a sign of a good leader/executive.

One benefit of being at IU for such a long time is Scott has seen a lot of mistakes, A LOT! -- from the search committee interviewing no one and hiring Davis to whatever Glass missed when he hired Archie (and Wilson and Allen).  He knows who/what to avoid.  And in fairness he's seen some good non-rev sport hires too.  I'm optimistic he knows what sort of bball coach candidate will work at IU.  It certainly appears he figured out what football coach would do well here, and that was a harder task than what he faces with bball.

In the end, Scott is all we have at IU to fix basketball.  We've seen the serious incompetence and conflicts from those outside the athletic dept.  Fortunately, I think their influence is materially diminished.  I get being pessimistic with bball hires, it's hard to argue with the history, but there are reasons to be optimistic that Scott gets the next one right.

I'd argue Reneau has some of the most heart on this team

Mgbako had been committed to Duke for months before choosing to decommit because Filipowski opted to return for his second year.

Reneau decommitted from Florida because Mike White left for Georgia. He had no shortage of suitors.

The right coach could definitely put these guys in a better position to succeed. It had nothing to do with schools staying away from them.

Exactly. Both of these guys (and many others on teams under Woodson's tenure) could have benefited from some serious coaching. Apart from the hubris and ego-related stuff, Woodson's biggest downfall is that he can't coach/develop players. He's stuck in the '80s NBA style with multiple bigs clogging things up and no focus on outside shooters.

It's not surprising that with Reneau's absence due to injury, the team seems to be playing better with the middle opened up.
