Fire Coach Woodson Thread

As I said I have never heard exactly but something about what one or more of the old men in the room were acting.

She's a woman so who really knows? Sometimes my wife is in a great mood, I go to the bathroom and come back she's is spitting fire.

Perhaps it was sabotage?!  Can’t appoint your pal to be coach if Brad takes the job… ;)

How exactly does one get a commitable offer, leading IU to believe he’s theirs, and still have time to go home and get outvoted by his family?  That’s a weird timeline.

And even is his kids are gone, he’s still at 1-1 tie with his wife.

And everyone who's ever been married knows that's actually 1-10

We have to quit thinking about the optics unless you look at the optics in the other direction.  It is clear the university only looked their direction and had no clue this was going to happen.  So which optic looks worse now, firing Woodson last year or what happened at the Illinois game?  I say the Illinois game was much worse!

100%.  I was listening to Coyle and Kravitz this morning.  They talked about how painless the transition would’ve been had we moved from Woody to Dusty last year.  Now we could be fubar.

Some fans here will have you believe this job becomes undesirable to some because of the supposed noise. Because of the desire to win and a remarkable fanbase in terms of energy, knowledge, and scope.

Any coach worth their salt (and whose family approves, etc) wants this gig because winning here makes you a King.
No coach worth having is turned off by the supposed noise, rather they are motivated by it, they embrace it—like Pope at UK.

So when this job is turned down by Stevens and Pearl and May sticks around in Ann Arbor then what? Those guys aren't worth their salt I suppose?

If Coyle turns on you as a coach, it's over! Scott, do the right thing and fire the man or force him to announce retirement after these two away games. Don't let an IU legend come back to Assembly Hall to get booed again. For an administration and university that's so worried about optics, the two options presented above are the only way through this mess without vitriol from the fanbase. I don't think Woodson deserves to be the topic of hateful discussion, but he does deserve to lose his job. I'm presenting two avenues of approach to calm the masses (if we lose the next two, the Maryland game at home will be ugly for CMW)

Yes look at Cigs in football after one season. He is king. He could ask for anything in the state right now and get it.

True, but those of us that want the basketball program to get turned around.... Cignetti was the best thing for it, IMO. He set the standard... Woodson and company look like FOOLS.

let's compare Shanahan, Haines, Kuntz, and others to the basketball staff. Mercy lol

IU has the least amount of expectations of any football program in the country. Cignetti literally said on Game Day that he looked at the football schedule and decided it was a place where could win immediately and the rest is history.

But comparing the IU football job to the IU basketball job is asinine.

Gotcha, at least you’re consistent.

Question: do you think we’d be better or worse this season with Dusty coaching? If we had made that change last offseason, do you think anyone on January 16 2025 would be talking about how IU did Woodson dirty and coaches would be wise to stay away?

That's kind of the thing.  The question isn't whether a coach "deserves" another year.  The question is there a better option out there to coach my team.  Back before the Cubs finally won the World Series again, they had a coach in his first year --  a run of the mill guy who checked the boxes and could lead the team.  Then Joe Maddon became available and they quickly fired the old guy and hired Maddon.  And eventually won a World Series.  They did the same thing upgrading from David Ross to Craig Counsell.  Right now, you could say there are at least 100 guys who would be an upgrade over Woodson.

I’ve never put this on the board before, but I have my own source who basically confirmed, in real time, that lots of the IU inner circle (ie high level donors, trustees, etc…) earnestly believed IU was getting Stevens. It became the worst kept secret in Indy for a day or so. This person is not an IU fan, is not a message board person and is not prone to silly gossip or hysteria. So I believe IU thought they had it in the bag.

I don’t believe Stevens was anywhere close.

And the fact that IU was so bamboozeled just makes me think IU is that incompetent, not that Stevens was all that interested.

Just my 2 cents, that’s probably worse less than that.

If negotiations got to the point that Stevens got on a plane to meet with IU officials and a contract was produced for him to sign, you’d have to think Stevens was really interested, no?  I mean, the alternative, even according to your what your own sources say happened, was that Stevens had nothing better to do during the home stretch of Boston’s regular season than negotiate with Indiana just to lead them on.

Exactly what I think about you and most of your posts. You are almost always wrong with everything you say. Good Day

It was rumored Pearl wanted this gig last cycle. He openly gushed about our fanbase in a press conference just last year!!

There are myriad reasons why a guy might not uproot his family and take this job. Way down the list, for the vast majority of coaches, is “noise”. You can keep highlighting it in every other post but that doesn’t suddenly make it a real consideration for people. In fact, it’s more likely to motivate someone to take this job.

Now stop responding to me. As you put it eloquently earlier IDGAF what you think.

Yep every great coach is rumored to IU..until they aren't. Beilein, Donovan, Stevens, Pearl. Can't believe IU has missed out on multiple HoFers the last 3-4 cycles. IU basketball leads the country in almost hiring the best coaches. Crazy how that works and not one has ever come to fruition.

Things that make you go hmmmm

I'll never understand the "optics" of firing a coach who's had a mediocre record, no recruiting, and failed to build a foundation for a program, who didn't meet his stated goals of competing for championships.  Seems clear to me.
