Fire Coach Woodson Thread

So, I looked at the 4th year records of a mix of coaches. All-timers. Recent tournament winners. And for giggles, Bruce Pearl.

A few one the number of games. Didn’t take the time to look at the other criteria. Not many who even made the 25 win benchmark. All of these are at their last, most prominent positions.

John Wooden 19-12

Dean Smith 15-9

Coach K. 24-10

Roy Williams. 21-7

Bill Self. 33-5

Jim Boeheim. 26-4

Scott Drew. 15-16

Tom Izzo. 33-5

John Thompson. 21-7

John Bielein  21-14

Jay Wright. 24-8

Dan Hurley. 23-10

Lute Olson. 18-12

Mark Few. 24-9

Bruce Pearl. UT. 21-13. Auburn  26-8

John Calipari  21-12

Denny Crum  28-3, but almost needs to be an asterisk because Louisville was in the Missouri Valley Conference

So, counting Pearl at Auburn, only 5 guys won 25 games in their 4th year. Add RMK and you have 6.

Sure there are more but just trying to remember the more prominent names. The criteria is too exclusive that Hornsby is expecting

Bill Self at Kansas and Bruce Pearl at Auburn already had P5/6 coaching experience so it's not surprising their numbers are higher.

Calipari may have had only 21 wins in year 4 but he had won 29 or more each of his first 3 years, had won a NC, and been to another FF. Like Self and Pearl, he was also a well known coach.

You had a typo for Roy Williams, he was 31-7.

So what I see here is if you hire a coach with P5 success (Self, Pearl, and Williams) or a coach with multiple FF (Calipari), you're more likely to have quick success.

Scott Drew was in year 4 of building from a dead program, so that record isn't surprising.

Also, if you're going to give Crum an asterisk, you should probably give one to Few as well.

So should we take this Trilly news as confirmation that the admin is looking to make a move away from Woodson, or just that they are doing due diligence?

I wouldn't because we don't even know who Trilly is and how would he know all of this

Your opinion. The portal and NIL have not been around for 4 years so you have nothing to back up your claim.
I'm not going to argue you want Woodson and I dont.

Here is the main problem. Sisley lost to a good Princeton team and we lost our chance to see him. Painter got the last visit. We make it too easy on Painter in the state.

I’d have to think that either 1) Woody thinks he is untouchable and doesn’t give rats rear end about recruiting or 2) he knows how it’s going to end and doesn’t care.

I mean, I don’t see what else it could be.

Yes but how many of those recruits have chosen to play for IU or has committed to IU? If they love it so much then why do we only have one class of 24 signed and losing interest daily with the 25 class? Woodson also said he wanted to get to a 4 out 1 in offense obviously that wasn’t true. People say stuff all the time usually actions speak louder than words.

We offered 35 players in 2024 and got one. Rabby was bragging about how many five stars visited also but who cares if you don't land them.

Not the point and not sure what I want. Yet tbd.

You tend to make statements/claims without much evidence to back them up.

Still can't believe we hired this guy.  2 unbelievable hires in a row.  It's hard to be this bad on accident. @Chris007 as someone who I assume had to be around Archie quite a few times does this surprise you?

I never felt like he was acting like a big shot, he was just awkward. He just seemed uncomfortable in social settings. But at times he could be funny.

Correct it's one of those. Sure doesn't act like the guy who loves it bbal like he claims he does.

Possibly the strangest person I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting. If I didn’t know who he was, my guess on his occupation would’ve been “serial killer”.

Old people get tired easier. They feel like going to bed earlier and never sleep well. They lose all interest in wasting time watching high school basketball, something they have not seen in 40 plus years. Thus it is hard for old people to get excited about going to see a recruit and waste time at AAU games in the summer when they have a tee time scheduled.  LOL

So, the guy that was just hired as the new football coach is 62.

Generalize much?
