I don't think he's lazy.  Frustrated, yes.  But he's been pretty hard nosed all year.  Losing focus when things went downhill in a game lateer int he season as long as it is out of character to me doesn't say lazy.  If it becomes a pattern, then yes.

Malik has been a player all year long. He always gives pretty consistent effort - maybe not making the best decisions every time, but effort isn’t something I think that you can put on him.

Lotta truth to this statement.

Woodson not filling that empty scholarship with a capable guard is rearing its ugly head now

How hard would it have been to lower his at the table standard just a bit and get a decent guard sign.  I don’t care how many 5 star recruits you have, if you don’t have quality guard play in college basketball then you won’t win consistently. And Trey Galloway, Xavier Johnson, Cupps, Gunn and Leal aren’t quality guards, they are guards you bring off the bench to play 8-12 minutes per game.

Guy I suggested that IU should have went after in the portal......if NIL played any impact in his decision, IU would have certainly be at the top of his list.  That said, different players look for different things.

Team mate of Payton Sparks at Ball State.  Transferred to Central Florida.  Was a two level scorer at Ball State.  Putting up 17 ppg at UCF.  Hasn't shot the three pointer well this year but has a history as a very good shooter and is someone you have to guard out there.

Proof that Iowa win was a teaser game.  I have seen this time and time again even before Woodson era and after Knight era.
It was barely a win at home vs an average team. Not ever sure it was a teaser.

Bottom line.....seems Woody needs over the top talent to win.  Last year at least the talent was more balanced -- we had a mid first round point guard and one hell of a post player.  But I think our success last year was more about the talent and little to do with X and O's.  There is talent on this team but it's so uneven.  Best scorers are both post players.  MM may have been over rated as a recruit but he is certainly coming along and will be an NBA player one day in my opinion -- but he's really a stretch 4 and not a 3.  But guard play is non-existent.

I don't think Woody's getting first.  Ware will go pro.  Reneau at the 5, MM at the 4 and McNeely at the 3 is a decent frontcourt.  Who knows about Queen,  but THERE HAS TO BE INFUSION INTO THE BACKCOURT.

I'd be really surprised if all three of Reneau, MM, and McNeely are here next year. MM especially. Some teams will try enticing them with big NIL money. The only way they stick around is if there's a big backcourt infusion, imo. Otherwise it'll just be a repeat of this year for Reneau and MM.

Cups eventually will be a solid guard. He’s just not ready physically or mentally for this level to be playing major minutes.

Trey needs an athletic guard next to him to be effective. He’s a good player but he’s not a difference maker.

gun is probably better off at a place like Ball State - not trying to be cruel, just being honest.

XJ? He’s always had the talent, but is wildly inconsistent and, emotionally, you never know what you’re going to get on the court with him. He should have been gone after the speeding ticket at the end of the year two years ago.

What’s Dolson thinking? Feel like we’ve discussed it ad nauseum but he’s surely disappointed. Common sense, Woodson’s 1st two years, AND contract all mean he’s going to get at least one more year. But there will be an offseason state of things conversation.

Also the worst take I’ve ever seen on here that didn’t involve hand-waving some violent crime is probably “Archie > Woodson.” No need to tell obviously lies and invalidate everything you’ll ever say about ball!

He isn't thinking, that's part of the problem. Weeks ago there should've been discussions with Woodson about how this performance is unacceptable.

Woodson's first two seasons weren't good enough to shield him from being fired after this season. Not if the season ends the way we all expect it to end. Last year especially was a disappointment considering the expectations going into the year.

So they can't miss from three so we go under the screen and then not get back. Malik is lazy

I think it’s a little of many things actually:

First, not disciplined to not swat and reach in-foul every time. Second, slight lazy component prob is there. Third, resignation.

So you are saying XJ is the Forest Gump of college basketball?

I suggested him back in the summer and was told that we should save the scholarship for a better option. Apparently "no one" was a better option...

I know this year’s a disappointment and it might be nice to believe this but it simply isn’t true given the length of the contract, where the program was over Arch, etc
