Why would he leave for IU of all places?  Seems like he's got a pretty good thing going and he's enjoying himself.

I don’t know why people say this, coaching types covet the power conference jobs. Not many people are content to never compete at the highest level, even when it’s a program like IU where competing usually just means striving for 6-6 seasons.

Also, the fact he would be getting a massive pay increase probably helps. I honestly think way too much is made of programs struggling to win honestly…

If it’s true we have a decent sized NIL budget lined up for him, you can win here. We’ve seen a lot of awful programs historically speaking figure it out with the right coaching hire… look at Duke/Kansas

Why would he leave James Madison?  Is that really a question?

Pay increase, because major programs probably overlook him due to his age, and because this probably reflects an increased financial commitment from the top of the uni. When all this is said and done I think hiring Whitten will be one of the biggest factors in all this. She understands what it can do for a school to be competitive in football.

He could also have a competitive drive that would like the challenge. Money can be a pretty big motivator though.

Because you lead JMU to a few ranked seasons/bowl wins and everyone outside their fan base forgets you exist in about 2 years max.

You lead IU football into the new era of the B10 and make it a respectable program? That's a legacy right there Golfman :92:

If we can get Cignetti I'd be curious what coordinators and coaches he brings in. I think JMU offense was run oriented but if it works it works.

QB threw for over 3k yards and has wheels, it was dominant offense in both phases.

Threw me for a second that he had a 16 game season. Forgot about lower level playoffs.

Normally I wouldn't give this much if anything but..... kind of seems relevant here.

Can’t imagine what other reason there could possibly be.
