Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Haven't been as active on here in the last week. Coach Allen had to go. Simple as that. Props to Dolson for making the change and not waiting another year. A 1-11 or 2-10 season was likely. Based on Hot Boards and names, I like these five names in order:

Tom Herman

Paul Chyrst

Willie Fritz

Jason Candle

Ryan Silverfield

I'll be honest, I had to do a lot of reading on the 3-5 candiates. Realistically Candle, Fritz, and Silverfield are the most likely options. I don't think there is a "grand slam" kind of hire here. Not saying these aren't good options, we have to wait and see.  I personally think Tom Herman could win here but wouldn't be here long if he did. Chryst has proven he would win in the Big Ten. I like that he has been at Texas this last year. Feel like Fritz, Candle, and Silverfield are solid Non-Power 5 options. Personally think Herman and Chryst could have IU winning sooner rather than later. With the others it might be a few years.

I'm not as big of a diehard IU football fan as some of you. I refuse to be the reverse letterman jacket IU Basketball and Notre Dame football fan. I root for all IU teams. All I want is IU football to consistently make a bowl game. I know we hate them, but I'd love it if IU became what UK Football is under Stoops. 7 straight bowls (4-3 record), finished a season in the top 15 twice, produced some solid NFL talent as well.

I think Fritz has let people know he is not interested in going anywhere

Can we just get a coach who can build a real team identity? Tom Allen era had zero identity. Unless being undisciplined is an identity. I don't care if it's Kevin Wilson style air it out or defensive, smash mouth, ball possession dominant. Just pick a lane. I could really go for either.

It did? It sounded like that? When?

I don't think it sounded like that at all.

Reportedly offering $70 million to Stevens and then offering less than half of that to a coach that wasn't on a single other programs radar looks exactly how it sounds.

Losing at football.   It's Indiana!

That is Indiana's real team identity built over decades.

To fight against the uphill demographics, the money, the politics in the state capitol, and the above tradition is tough.

The demographics, for instance, is recruiting the same ground as Purdue, Notre Dame, OSU, MSU, UM, UI, UK...and not being in the state capitol.

I want to see the plan that Dolson has to make Indiana a great football power.  Serving beer, fixing bathrooms, making facilities state of the art, getting more money from Peacock and BTN, and hiring a good coach are reactions and not a plan.  Have the trustees seen the plan?  Is it available to the public?

Moving the state of Indiana very close to the southeast coast would be an important part of any plan.   Maybe Virginia Beach or Hilton Head.

Also most of the he things that get leaked out are probably not true. They always say during they trade deadline, draft and free agency 95% of the things you here are not true. I would say a lot of this things are leaked out by agents to get their clients more money.

Today I started looking at top coordinators. Because, well, that's where I'm at now.  A lot to choose from and depending on what direction you want but I think I would be happy with a guy like Manny Diaz. I would think we would be seeing these types of names on the list instead of Sean Lewis. Especially after letting Allen go with a huge buyout. But whatever, it's IUFB we're talking about here.

Diaz couldn't win in Miami where his family is actual royalty. He'd be terrible here. Now if he wanted to take a lateral position move with a pay decrease, I'm all ears for him as DC!!!

I think this might be the highest ceiling play

He's innovative and the offense would at least be entertaining most times out, but he'd have to be guaranteed a fortune to spend his defensive staff support though or this will be Wilson lite.

More on Lewis - he was 24-31 in five years at Kent State, where they had one of the top offenses in CFB multiple years. The five years before him Kent was a combined 14-45, and this year without him they are 1-11. They also routinely played a brutal non-con. For reference,  his last season he was 5-7 but three of those losses were @ Oklahoma, @ Georgia, and @ Washington. Its clear we would have a fun offense from day 1, and it looks like he can recruit, but it would require a heavy investment in DC to avoid the Kevin Wilson scores of 55-52 every game.

I didn't mind Kevin Wilson scores.

Recruiting everywhere else is different than recruiting at Indiana. We have zero clue how any of these guys would recruit at Indiana.

It looks and sounds like a big nothing burger to me and most people. Those that are dramatic by nature might try and read into it more. Eeesh

Are people serious about this Sean Lewis?  I know I need to have low expectations but this is wild.

He’s not being talked about because of low expectations. He’s actually a highly thought of young coach in college football.

The problem I had with the Kevin Wilson 55-52 scores is we almost always had the 52.

Define win. Because during his tenure (3 seasons) he went bowling 3 out of 3 and finished with a 21-15 record.  I don't know about you, but for me at least, I would be on cloud nine if IUFB had his numbers while at Miami.

Is that true, though?

We went to bowl games his last two seasons, and holy F, did KW ever inherit a MESS from Bill Lynch...

I'll even go further... Kevin Wilson had A LOT to do with our seasons in 2019, 2020.

Takes me back to my college days which were the Cam Cameron days. Where we would lose 35-31, 41-38 But it was exciting
