Everyone can do that, but I don’t see P5 teams lining up to do it.

Regardless of how much we think IU sucks, there will always be an appeal to coach in a power conference, especially with the current conference  format where there will be fewer and fewer power jobs.

I don't see that for Herman though. I assume he can get quite a bit better job than ours in a year or two. JMO

So in Dolson’s mind Hart is better than Herman?  I’m more confused than ever about how this works lol.

I can only assume Dolson is drunk, or incompetent.

This is a case of clear IUFB PTSD, which is absolutely warranted:

Candle and Chryst supposedly in our final three, so as IU football fans we strongly suspect it will be Hart.

If that’s the trio then IU really needs to make Candle the guy. I won’t be shocked if Hart is someday a good HC but I’m not sold on that “someday” being now

I can't imagine how absurd I would feel if I was Scott Dolson if we hire Hart.

Imagine walking up to the podium at the start of the new IUFB coach introductory press conference, putting your arm around a 37 year old Mike Hart, and trying to convince IU fans that "we finally got our guy".

The same Scott Dolson that got completely pantsed by Allen's agent with that ridiculous buyout?

Sure, but at the time who could predict that CTA would crap his pants in two short years.  Had he made it to year 3, the buyout was much more serviceable.  At least give Dolson credit for finding the money for the buyout to end the suffering.

The thing is, he wouldn't know any better. And why would he? He's never had to hire a football coach before. How could he possibly have the experience or knowledge to hire an adequate football coach when he's never done it before?

Got bailed out on that contract to turn around and give the job to Mike Hart. If I was a donor that helped get that money I'd want Dolson to polish his resume.

If he told them he wasn't interested I wouldn't think he'd be on their list to interview at all.

Possibly he was on the list and then decided a Bloomington mailing address wasn't what he wanted.  Or, he was never truly on the list.  There's so much internet stuff floating around who really knows with 100% certainty who's on the list and who isn't?

Shelling out one of the worst coaching contracts in the history of the sport and replacing him with a guy who gets fired 3 years later would be immediate grounds for dismissal at literally any other P5 program in America.

good thing our #1 focus is on football right?  We are not a football school nor will we ever be.  Yea the basketball program should be better than it currently is but football is not our top priority from a sports perspective.  CMW era is doing solid(could be better sure but also could be worse).  So because Dolson possibly misses on this hiring he automatically gets canned?  CTA was warranted a contract extension, was it a little premature maybe but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.  he took his shot and sSafe to say Dolson shot his shot and missed sure.  Womens bball is doing good, women's volleyball is on the up and coming.

Hiring a position coach with ZERO prior head coaching experience, ZERO prior play-calling experience, ZERO experience hiring an entire support staff at a school like Indiana is a recipe for disaster. We will be sitting here 3 years from now doing it all over again if that’s your thing.

The NFL does that all the time
