I think Malik being in foul trouble and fouling out really hurt and I feel Ware got pushed around alot. Mack didn't look confident at all.

Totally agree, lots to work on but while it’s no fun for us to watch as fans today might have been some good medicine to take

That’s on Woodson.  He said from the beginning he wanted an outside offense.  He dumped it inside the last two years because of TJD.  He and race are gone and we are playing the same damn thing.

The best coaches adapt.  Woody did so last two years. This year not so much.

And he assembled this roster to be a post oriented team.  He may say it, but to date he's not showing it.

Anyone else notice UConn was the only team to get a band, student section, and cheerleaders at the game? What was going on there? Neither Texas or Louisville have that at msg either.

Maybe proximity? Other schools didn’t want to pay for them to travel?

Yes Mack played poorly. He's got to figure it out or the team's ceiling is seriously capped. Just doesn't look anything like the player he was in HS/AAU. Don't know what the answer is, or if there is one, right now.

X and Trey also played pitifully on perimeter D. We don't seem to box out when a shot goes up. That's frustrating with so much size. The guards absolutely let the team down on the boards tonight. UConn's Newton had a crap ton of them and damn near a triple double

Cupps got blown by Spencer once, then played really tough D on Newton. He might've looked the best of the guards defensively today, granted XJ sat a ton early.

If Malik didn't go off, the score would've been a lot worse. Gunn, obviously not a perfect game, see him getting better even since the exhibition games.

The 3 point D and rebounding will probably be weaknesses all year. But if we can give it enough time I think this team can still be good. I do think our back court and Mack will be what ends up limiting us/propelling us.

Beat Louisville. 4-1 is about as good as we could've hoped to start. One game at a time.

A lot of new pieces so suspect the offense will eventually find a flow. MM hasn’t been good but has tons of upside. Unfortunately guard play is a known quantity with guys that have been in the program other than Cupps. We saw what having an elite guard could do last year and simply don’t have anything close this year. Gotta have guards in CBB.

I don’t think Ware is a true post player.  Yes he can do it, but his a$$ isn’t big enough.  Against wider bigs he’ll have his issues.  BUT, what makes him interesting is his ability to hit from outside.  We have been missing that.  So they can’t just play him like TJD.  They need to play him like Kel el ware.

At best he’s a defensive specialist.  He’s a total spaz on offense

His offensive issues are clearly mental not to do with talent. I hope that getting more minutes gets him comfortable and he can start to knock some more down.

Relying a freshman—no matter how talented—to be your consistent shooting threat is a bad idea. Freshman are defined by inconsistency. Even JHS was pretty up and down last year, and you won’t find too many freshman as savvy as him.

Agreed which is why the staff went after Kencht  (whom they thought they were going to land) and others.

How would a staff think they were going to land someone when they couldn’t even get him on campus for a visit?    If they thought they had a Colorado kid with no midwestern ties then that’s staff malpractice.    I agree they went after top end guards in the portal they just missed out.   You could argue they should of continued to recruit guards in the portal even if they were not top end guards instead of taking a transfer commitment from another post player when your roster already had 8 of them
