Yep.  Would have been much better if after they figured out who he was they started a conversation about the upcoming season, Woodson, practice, classes, etc.  Deescalte the situation and send him on his way or even meet his dad when he shows up.  

I can go back to the days when my kid got in trouble.  High school party, busted by the cops.  1:00 am call to come get him.  The fact that the cop came to the car, talked about how we were all stupid kids once, and told me how they were going to proceed was expertly done.  Could have been very bad for my kid and several kids there.

Absolutely. Diffuse the situation, as opposed to unnecessarily escalating what was obviously a minor “incident.”

Wow.  You really believe that?  It's the cop's version of the "facts."  Always written with their slant.  Otherwise there is no need for defense attorneys, judges and juries.

Unconscious bias basically guarantees that police reports have an inherent "slant." It's written based off of one individual's perception of what occurred. That is why body cams are so important. It's the only way to have indisputable evidence/guarantee truth.

I can agree for the most part.  I just believe police are much more impartial than their public perception. I feel the police reports are closer to the truth than somebody who caused a disturbance that required police presence

The mods appreciate that the personal insults and extremely off-topic stuff has ceased. The board rules prohibit that and people are generally trying to abide by those rules.

Why should we care? Why's it all that big of a deal to us? He ain't my kid, he isn't one of my students, he isn't a relative. 

He isn't getting any substantial suspension.. not happening. 

I just flat out don't care about this.. don't let it happen again, go hit corner 3s and dunk on Purdue... about all the energy I have for someone I've never met, but plays basketball on my favorite team, and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge.  

To the extent that I care, which isn’t a lot, it’s because it’s embarrassing for IU when its high-profile athletes get arrested. Same way it was embarrassing during the Tom Crean era when his players were getting into trouble. 

Beyond that, it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t need our players to be role models. If they are, great. It’s an added bonus. Beyond that, I just need them to win games and not do anything too terrible off the court.

Better yet, why don’t Woodson and staff hold a player workshop that teaches appropriate private establishment behavior? Conduct yourself in a professional manner in this type of crap ceases real quick.

Hopefully no major suspension and this young man learns from this. If it turns out the cops are in the wrong I pray they are fired and forced to work at the said taco bell for 30 years. You guys will never agree on who's right or wrong so give up. I am sad my NIL question wasn't answered by more posters and what cases like this create for players and programs in general
