Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) - CG Dylan Harper to Rutgers

Recommended Posts

Cupps working his butt off on the recruiting trail.  I've read he'll be in SSAH for the PUke game on Sunday with no doubt some high profile IU targets.

Hate for you to miss the game so I'll let you know it's on Saturday.

Don Bosco Prep, No. 3 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated No. 7 Bergen Catholic 67-55 in Ramsey.  With the victory, Don Bosco Prep improved to 21-2 and won 12 of its last 13.  Bergen Catholic fell to 16-7 and had its five-game winning streak snapped.

I had Harper with 32p; 5r; 2a; 5s.   10-16 FG; 2-4 on 3s; 10-12 FT     Game was close throughout and then Harper took over in the 4th Q scoring 12p which included going 6-7 FT; grabbing 2 reb. and 3 steals.  He's fun to watch.  Quick hands and feet and loves to take it to the basket.  Long shot for us but would love to have him come to IU.

More on last night's 43-41 win over Hudson Catholic.  Ironmen is a fitting nickname for Don Bosco Prep especially the way they clanged shots off the rim especially in the 1st half.  Harper finished with 17 pts., but had only 4 at the half and was just 1-7 FG that included 0-4 on 3s.  In the second half he started attacking the basket for buckets and drawing fouls.  He scored 13 in the 2nd half on 3-5 FG and attempted just a single 3.  He was 7-9 FT.  He also had 2r; 4a; 4s; 4b; 1t.

DBP trailed most of the game and with just over a minute remaing, 2 of Harpers FT tied it at 39-39.  With about 35 sec. left, he blocked a HC shot corraling the block and firing a court length pass to a teammate for a layup that would turn out to be the winning bucket.  Then in the closing seconds he blocked a HC layup attempt that would have tied the game.

A wild game and really wild 4th Q but despite 38 pts. from Harper, Don Bosco goes down to Bergen Catholic 76-70 in a NJSIAA Non-Public A Semifinal game.  Don Bosco trailed throughout and was down 17 at the half and still down 58-46 after 3 Qs.  Harper scored 18 of his team's 24 4th Q pts. but it just wasn't enough.

That's in July.  That article sounded good for Rutgers.

The Ace Bailey addition was huge. It’ll be Rutgers. Rutgers lack of winning history was maybe going to hold him back but now he believes they can win.

They will be a dynamic duo for sure.

No. 2 in 2024 Dylan Harper (@dy1anharper) came down to Atlanta to team up with No. 5 Ace Bailey and AOT. He seamlessly came in a dropped 20 in their win at @thetipoffclassic.
Harper's regular team is the EYBL The Rens.
.

That about settles it.. unless NIL wins out.

HARPER CONTINUES TO MAKE HIS CASE FOR TOP SPOT

In the last class of 2024 rankings release there were mixed opinions among the 247Sports basketball group about who should be ranked as the No. 1 player in the class of 2024. Over the weekend Dylan Harper -- who currently ranks No. 2 overall -- strengthened his case for that top spot. Harper connected on multiple threes, used his big frame to finish and made the right reads on his drives to the rim. Harper’s feel and instincts are why he had my vote for No. 1 and he continues to show why he is still in the conversation for that top spot.

Harper is currently down to a final five of Kansas, Duke, Auburn, Indiana and Rutgers.

I'd be shocked if we land him but I'm glad the staff is trying and apparently doing a good job of it.
