Popular Post Stuhoo Posted June 22, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2023 The number 3 player in the class received an offer from Duke? Not sure why that's a revelation. Sure, he may pop for Duke and it could happen soon. But let's get that official visit to IU done before he does. If he doesn't take an IU official before he announces then it's clearly a done deal, but with all the time he's spent at IU games, if he takes an IU official I think we have a puncher's chance. Did he take a junior year OV to IU or just a bunch of UV for games? I know he's been on campus multiple times. I'm glad the coaching staff isn't like some of the fans and just give up as soon as Fine shows interest. :) Quote
HoosierFan1994 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 If I'm someone in Flory's "camp" I show them what Trayce was before Woodson vs. after Woodson as well as Lively's "development" at Duke. #1 recruit, 5 points a game, and the #12 overall pick. If you are a high school #1 overall player, you should be going top 5. Either that or Lively was overhyped which is possible. Sorry, I hate Duke and I'm not on the Scheyer bandwagon like the national media folks. They greatly underachieved this year with the talent they had. Hoosier Roots, J34 and thebigweave 3 Quote

But #1 recruits in the nation carry intrigue if you don't overplay your welcome. TJD got pigeon-holed early by the scouts and was never fully able to break out of that. If he was a #1 recruit out of HS he'd have been gone early too. NBA is so messed up right now though. I'm hoping teams like Denver, Golden State and Miami prove that what many have been doing with prognosticating player's growth while ignoring production changes. I automatically assume that Riley and Spoelstra see something that others don't and the guy will very likely succeed. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

Lively was rated number 1 in his class for whatever reason. He is getting drafted on what could be…I mean he avg 5 pts and 5 rebs on a Duke team that wasn’t as good as some of their previous teams….. The other factor is Lively is 7’1”….if TJD WAS 7’1” instead of 6’9” he would have went earlier. Part of TJDs issue (NBAs eyes) is he would be an all-world center but he is in a PF body… I love where TJD ended up too….he could shock the world there! I would also show them Adam Sonogo, Azoulis Tubelis, Drew Timme, and Oscar Tshiebwe didn’t get drafted from better teams from this year…. Hollywood Mike Miranda 1 Quote

I think for the most part, the guys that excel in college not based on system but skills, will find a way to excel in the NBA too if given equal opportunity and a proper system. So many of the high risk, high reward draft picks are just busts. Quote

Very well could but Trayce was nowhere near the #1 player in is class Lively supposedly was. Again, I'm a homer and can't stand Duke one bit so I'm going to be biased a little. Lively may have a solid career simply because as it has been pointed out, he's a rim protector. Sounds like it's being suggested Trayce fell a bit because he did not want to be on a two way contract. No way there are 56 better players in the draft than Trayce. Quote

They are still developing. Of ESPN's top 8 '22 recruits, only one (Lively) was a lottery pick. Mitchell and Ware had disappointing freshman seasons. Nick Smith was supposedly a top 5 pick coming into the year. It's possible injuries played a role and situations around the school these players chose. However, I feel once some of these kids get to college they just take off. Like a Taylor Hendricks or Jalen... Even 2nd year guys like Bufkin and Hawkins developed. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Russ Wood of Rivals from Thursday's Top 100 Camp One of the top four players in the 2024 class, and the No. 1 center, Flory Bidunga was the most dominant player we watched on Thursday. He made all eight of his shot attempts – most of them thunderous dunks – on the way to 17 points, and grabbed nine rebounds. A very active 6-foot-10, 230-pounder, Bidunga was impressive defensively. On the perimeter he was comfortable switching on screens to guard a smaller player and in the paint his presence is respected by drivers. Bidunga only sent one shot back in the game we watched but he has nine blocks in four games. He seems to challenge just about everything. Crimson and Cream, ALASKA HOOSIER and taco corp 3 Quote
