He is considered one of the top offensive minds in college football. This label has been with him for a while. Maybe you guys should do more than look at just record and numbers. Look at who the head coaches were he worked for at Maryland and FSU. Look at what the roster looked like he had to work with. Talent and players make an impact and I know FSU didn't have the players at the time. I'm not saying it's a sure thing but I'm also not writing it off.

No... No... He's not a great offensive mind. He's had talent equal to and better than IUs at Maryland and Florida State. He those 3 years, he had a Top 100 scoring offense 1 time. His first season at Maryland they averaged 23.6 ppg... Which was 99th. Then Maryland averaged 20.5 in his second season there which was 111th. Only season at FSU they scored 20.6 ppg which was 112th. I think Allen is just signing off on his firing at this point. Next year is going to get really ugly.

One of the top offensive minds in cfb doesn’t take a job at UMASS.

If we need to look beyond the record and numbers and focus on the roster/talent he had to work with at Maryland and FSU, and assume he didn't have enough to work with to be considerably successful at those schools, I'm even less encouraged with him coming to IU.

I’d like to know the criteria we had that made him a candidate let alone the guy.  No name brand. Not a proven winner. Not an up and comer.  Not an elite recruiter.  This has to come down to one thing, money, and if that’s truly the case we are back to being the IU of old

I remember watching Willie Taggert's first game at Florida State and they played Virginia Tech. I just remember watching and thinking how bad Florida State looked on offense and Virginia Tech was in the backfield on almost every play. They only scored 3 points in that game. Had no idea who Walt Bell was or that he was the OC.

I really hope that is just nothing and he has success at IU, but I am not holding my breath.

Well he was a former head coach, I think CTA wanted someone who could be the head coach of the offense, he wanted someone with P5 experience as an OC and someone who would do it for a discount. He also speaks CTA language about making the players better men in life than just players blah blah blah. Just win for me, which it doesn't look like he has done a whole lot of.

Weaver at peegs had some good info on him

Some of you just like to complain. CTA could've hired Lincoln Riley as OC for crying out loud and you guys would've complained. Give things a chance to play out and see how recruiting and results go.

Give me a break. NO we wouldn't., there are plenty of hires that could have been made that most would have been okay with.

I am one of Coach Allen's biggest supporters. Come on man

It was an exaggeration on my part but writing a guy off before it's even official drives me nuts. Every coach deserves a chance to see if they can be successful or not.

You're trying super hard to stick up for an awful hire... But why?

Every coach deserves a chance and honestly I get tired of constant complaining. I'll never right a guy off because sometimes they prove you wrong.

Let’s quit pretending you know anything more about this hire than the rest of us, who collectively have about 50 seconds of knowledge on him.

This. No  one knows what he will do here. Good or bad. Put solid results on the field and we will be back on the hype train. If not, this was probably CTA's last OC hire. Lot riding on this one but I will wait and see.

He has had 3 awesome to prove something in a P5 conference as an OC. Two seasons in the Big Ten even. He failed in all 3 seasons. You can blame talent, but we don't have any talent either! What do you think is going to happen?

It's hard to say I'm not psychic. Sometimes a coach doesn't fit. Sometimes the HC doesn't let the OC do everything they want to especially if it's an offensive minded HC which Taggart was at FSU and at Maryland at least one of the years there was a ton injuries. I don't have all the information about those situations and I'm not going to pretend to. That's why I'm going to wait and see what happens.
