The part about this tournament that makes zero sense to me is, you start it a week after the portal opens. Unless you have a really young team what would you get from playing in this? Your coaching staff needs to worry about maintaining and acquiring kids. Just crazy to me.

It sounds good in theory...theories don't work in the real world!  Portal needs to open day after championship!

I hope I didn’t lead you to believe I was being critical of your post, my man.  I appreciate your posts & speculation along with the rest of us that don’t yet know who the coach is.  My apologies if I came across as such to you…

I didn't take it that way.  I just posted it was a "guess" one more time since this thread moves fast and I want to be clear no one is saying it's Tommy.

Aside from Brad, I am clueless who else it might be, especially since the lack of news makes it feel like Scott has his guy right now.  McDermott, Wade, Beard, and Brownell seem to be no's or not interviewed.  It would be hard for that guy to be McCollum (just starting D1) or Dusty (just starting a foundation at a P2 job).  I guess Shaka got an interview.  So...we shall see... it's quite the mystery...

A question I have asked, but no one seems to know.  If we were to go to the Crown Tournament, but most of our team is in the portal, then what happens?  Does IU face some kind of fine?  They just go on to the next team in line?  This will be interesting for sure.

The terms online state if you are offered a bid in the 3 conferences you have to take it.

However, Rabby posted tonight that IU would not be part of the Crown if they don't make the NCAA tournament.

So who knows?

Obviously they are going to have to move that portal start date back in the future, it's stupid.

Yes, likely a Monday - Wednesday announcement if it’s Brad.

But, I guess The Crown tournament could interfere. I’m sure schools could just pay a fee to not play in it. Pointless for Indiana to play in anymore games at this point, we know what the game will look like.

IU won’t play in any crown

The crown auto bid for the Big Ten goes to the two highest net teams that don’t make the tourney.  Right now that is Ohio State (41) and Northwestern (53).  Collin’s has already said Northwestern intends to turn down the NIT and Crown due to injuries.  I would think IU would have cause to turn down a bid due to a coaching change.

Exactly this. I think there’s a couple variables in this.

A) Do the current players have language in their NIL deals that they must compete in all games when healthy until the completion of the season. That will factor.

B) Is there a fine to not play as a team

C) What if a team is undergoing a coaching team, do they have to play?

I have no idea, but I suppose we’ll find out Sunday evening to Monday evening.

A) This will be a no, per the rules NIL cannot be tied to playing.  I know that sounds crazy because it's effectively "pay for play," but technically they're just getting paid for their name, image, and likeness.

It was a thought going into next season with revenue sharing. There’s been discussion of player contracts with language such as that.

Yea, I follow you, I'm just thinking out loud.  I really want to see some of the terms in those rev share contracts which will be tied to playing…
