We don't need a name, we need a good coach

I agree with that, do you think Brownell is that?  I think he is average.  Out of most of the names that have been tossed around here for the past few months, I can't think of too many that I would rank below him on my wish list.  There are a bunch of names on the list where I would think, "OK, let's see where this goes...." but he would have about the shortest leash out of all of them.  He is Tom Crean at Indiana if he is lucky.  And that looks good in comparison to what has been but...meh.

I could always be wrong but I think Brownell means we are back here again in 4 or 5 years having missed the tournament 2 or 3 times in his tenure doing all of this nonsense all over again.  And if he is what Indiana aspires to be, fine, but the school needs to diial down it's own propaganda around the program exponentially if that is the case.  Iowa doesn't get the support of Indiana.  They don't pretend they are on a higher level than they are.  If we are going to be Iowa, the school needs to act like it.

Other schools seem to be moving quickly on identifying their top candidates.  I can't believe that Dolson wasted several weeks with paralysis by analysis.  Instead, I think Dolson came to an agreement weeks ago with Stevens or Bennett and we are simply having to wait for the season to end to make an announcement.

What name would you be happy with?

I’d be fine with McDermott or Shaka.

I personally would be fine with them, however, I still don't think they make the casual fan excited. We may not be able to get coaches who I think would excite (Stevens, Donovan, Wright, Pearl, Self to a certain degree, etc.). It's just my opinion which doesn't have any influence on the situation whatsoever.

What will get fans excited is winning.

I think it's someone like Otz or Drew.  They aren't out we just have to wait until their season is over.  Hence the smokescreens.  We'll see.

I think the fanbase desire for Stevens puts a cloud over the program. One that will create a negative storm for whoever else gets hired. We saw a little bit of it yesterday when people thought it was McCollum.

It doesn't have to be Stevens....but it needs to be someone of that caliber to not be a disappointment. It just is what it is....everyone wants IU to be GREAT yesterday.

Well said. It could still be a great hire and not Stevens.

Why did Collins say Northwestern would NOT accept an NIT or Crown invite? Is it because of the injuries, or does he know he is moving on? They don't turn down invites!

Is it IU or another job? UVA?

Until the elite eight, the most exciting thing Brownnell had done here was almost land Zion. I am not joking. The most excited Clemson people have been for basketball in my nearly 10 years of living near Clemson and dealing with the athletic teams private flights is being in the running for a hometown kid they didn’t get.

There is no chance Dolson fired Woody to hire BB. None.

Not sure it's either of those guys (could be, but I wouldn't bet on it). But your assessment is otherwise correct based on everything I've heard.

The one thing I keep coming back to is that it makes zero sense for Dolson to have convinced the powers that be to let him force Woodson out, only to have no concrete plan and end up with a desperation hire. Dolson is far too smart to do that.

Yes, but there is a long time between now and next October's Hoosier Hysteria. The new coach will have to pretty much replace the entire team. To get a winner year 1, I believe we need a name to get the players in here to compete at a high enough level to win big. I'm not saying anyone has to agree with me, but I think IU has fallen too far down, become a laughing stock amongst the traditional blue bloods...need some name validation with this hire.

I didn't realize Brownell had that big  of a buyout. To me there is no way Dolson would pay an 8 million buyout for a guy like Brownell. I can't remember where I heard this but they said the largest buyout a school has paid in basketball was between 4-5 Million

No reason to play in tourneys with the portal here to stay. Gives coaches and players a chance to get started on a new chapter instead of playing in a meaningless game(s).

Indiana will conclude their season Sunday if they miss out.
