That optics of running off a coach who has made the tournament 3/4 years isn't appealing to a well-established coach currently in a good situation. This is a huge reason why Dusty May wasn't interested in the IU job. 

Every coach knows every reason I just listed - plus a ton more I won't list cause they are rumors solid rumors but rumors - Coach Crean has all but said he would jump back at the job and he lived it more harshly then CW (Heck I may give another shot before Turgeon - I'd like to see Crean with a NiL budget - his teams were often fun to watch unlike Woodson). They absolutely know he made his own bed and what got him in this situation - better then most of us imho. Most Coaches won't come here cause they are happy where they are or don't want to be in a fishbowl - but honestly that eliminates just a few of the ones that were long shots anyway. I'm not buying the Turgeon or Groche as our best shot - long time till the end of the season and SD put out feelers before making this decision. I absolutely believe that - heard it from too many places.

Optics are fine.   A coach with 0 college basketball coaching experience before he took the job got asked to leave for not winning enough.  I posted the the results of the 4 years earlier with what he said he wanted to accomplish.  He failed just like Archie before him.   A highly successful masterclass of a coach like May wouldn’t be scared away from back to back failing coaches.    IU was just a year too late.  He moved on and found a High major spot in one of the top 2 conferences so 0 reason for him to move from that.   Glad to see you coming around that he is an elite coach though.   You arguing keeping Woody over him last year was a head scratcher. Better late then never
