Another name to add to the "up and comer" list is Paris Lamont.  Lamont Paris named South Carolina men’s basketball coach | WBTW.  Made some noise with Chattanooga and now has South Carolina ranked #15 with recent wins of UK and at Tennessee.  Midwest fella (OH), former assistant at Wisconsin.  If you are watching games this spring he might be one to keep an eye out for as another wildcard.

I've heard he has let people know that he would be interested in Ohio St if that job opens. If they lose to us tonight, that job might be open tomorrow.

The losers of the game tonight should have to grow Coleman Hawkins mustaches as punishment.

I'm surpised by this analysis.

Shrews is by far the least proven of the 3 that were mentioned: a losing record in 3 years at IU Southbend, barely above .500 in 2 years at PSU and currently has a 7-15 record at ND. That's a poor resume.

May has a better resume.

Schertz has an amazing resume.

I think they are all good, but I don't necessarily agree. Shrews' relative success at the worst B1G program was impressive to me.

It's probably not fair to hold this year at ND against Shrews, no one here is talking about Shertz's 11-20 first year at ISU (nor should they be). Shrews hasn't even gotten a year three yet, but in year two he got PSU their first All-American in 80 years and won a tourney game. Record can't always tell the full story, 10 months ago Shrews was the hottest name in coaching for a reason.

For the record I think all three of them would succeed at IU but I am most confident in Shrew's ability to succeed at the P5 level because he's done it.

But didn't Pat Chambers have them playing pretty well before being let go for saying some crazy things? Then Shrews just took over those guys.

Yeah Chambers is a good coach, too, though.

But-- pretty sure Shrews pulled in multiple transfers.

Chambers is a good coach too, he got screwed. Tbf though, PSU was 206th in minutes continuity in Shrews' first year. Lundy, Dread and Harrar were the man returners, but it's not like they kept the whole Lamar Stevens team together.

I'd rather keep Woody for a few more years.

So what happens if Mack and Malik stays and we get Newton back and add McNeely. If we make a splash in the portal with SOME shooters do we have the talent to get over the Hump (No Pun Intended) lol. I'm assuming Trey comes back as well?

Do we get Queen too?  If so, we'll have a talented squad that plays two posts and doesn't run anything for shooters.  Woodson can win with talent, he just doesn't maximize the talent.  We will underperform against good teams again.

I would expect very little from Newton next year. It'll be so much time since he last played regularly plus the fact that it's a knee injury that kept getting reinjured. Not a good combination for making an immediate impact when playing again, possibly bad enough that he could never get to the level of an impact player.

Done with Woodson.  Unqualified.  Had his chance, along with staff.  Downward projection.  None of them don’t know what they are doing nor care that much.  No enthusiasm, lazy and a gig for as long as it lasts They need to be gone.

Don’t want no big name anything.

Rather, want someone who is yet to have big time success to enjoy their ride to the top.

1.  Dusty May

Others to consider Schertz…I think May and Schertz play the same type of game.  And Alford.

Just a comment in regards to Newton.  I think it's a huge mistake if we put a lot of faith in Jakai being a major contributor next season.  Kid hasn't played competitive ball in 2 years.  Would dearly love to have him prove me wrong but if the staff puts that kind faith in his return, then that's one less upgrade we'll be looking for in the portal.

Both have 3 years of P5 HC experience.  I can't even imagine the reaction from the mob if we replaced Woody with Schrewsberry.

I'm not advocating for Shrewsberry, but atleast he'd be an active HC when hired. Yes, IU set the bar that low when hiring Woodson; let's not underestimate how stupid that move was.

Depends. Do we revamp the staff? In that case, who is hiring the staff replacements? Who has Woodson ever evaluated at this level? Every hire has been forced, retained from previous staff, or a recommendation hire (Yasir). Does Woodson even listen to the new staff?

As scary as trying to replace multiple holes in the roster next year may be, who is going to coach them up? Who is going to develop and maximize their talent?
