General Coach Candidate News

Loyola is a far tougher and worse job than Dayton or Marquette, which have both had pretty consistent success over a wide range of coaches, and also dedicate a considerable amount of resources to basketball.

People said the same thing about if Archie fails, we're done, we're Nebraska football, etc. That's just not true. You can always make another hire. It just takes one to turn it around.

It’s a tougher job certainly, but its what we have to work with. We’ve seen so many mid major guys string together a few years of success, get hired at a P5 school, and then flameout. That’s exactly what happened with our last coach. I don’t want to try another mid major guy this time around.

We’ve made 4 of the last 13 NCAA tournaments, and we’d be hiring a guy who has made even fewer than us during that span to come fix things. Depending on who you ask, some would say we already are Nebraska football. If Porter Moser is the best we can do then I can’t say I disagree with them.

I wouldn’t. Two final fours in the past four years is great, but those are the only two tournaments he’s made in 17 years as a head coach. I get that making the tournament in a one bid league is a lot different from making it at IU, but he was nowhere close for his first 13 years as a coach. We all differ in how much risk we’re willing to take, but I wouldn’t want to hand the program over to him.

Bingo!!!

Gotcha. Forget the money... So you mean up-tempo/"sexy" is what you're looking for? And what was your list?

And the players will love to play his style of bball. Young,  energetic, exciting style of play that will be exciting and reunite the fan base. He will recruit big time at IU. Him and a notch below is Muss IMO. I would love either one but if we can get Oats, then watch out. Big things will be coming to IU.

Krutwig is a big factor for him right now.  Special unicorn of a player.  Unfortunately won't be able to see if they have the same success without him before our hire.

If IU doesn’t hire a coach today, then we will go until atleast Monday without knowing our next coach.... One would think. I would imagine Dolson won’t hire anyone tomorrow because you would assume he would be at the girls game and he won’t want  to take away from the girls program’s biggest day in school history.

IU could be waiting on coach with a team still playing--Arkansas or Loyola. If it was going to be one of the former IU players--Fife, Lewis, Cheaney or Woodson--they should have wrapped it up by now.

He won’t hire anyone tomorrow because they are all still playing.  Wait till after Tuesday to see some movement.

Anyone interested in what Michael Himself has to say, tune in to WBDC on radio.net.  It’s our hometown radio station & he is getting interviewed at 7:30 est.  His dad was my Homeroom teacher for 4 years in HS, & was a HARDCORE PU fan...

Can we just hire this guy already?

OMG this is the most cringeworthy speech I have ever seen.  Guy should have been fired before the team hit th floor.

We need to stop considering Mussleman. He's going to get a raise next month, Arkansas is a basketball / baseball school and they have more money than IU could ever dream of.

Plus, he's CTC 2.0. I don't care if he wins. If we wanted a salesman that wins then bring back CTC and throw cheaters around him like we had in 2011-2014. ;0

So the people who have Peegs membership...that guy still holding on to the 27th?

Seems silly - Knight was hired on the 27th.  Not sure of the time it was announced, but feels more like catfishing than reality.

We paid more money with 1 check for Archie to go away than they have paid muss in two years to actually coach. They do not have more more money than IU could ever dream of

Stop it

Each school has its fair share of billionaires.  So, each is more than capable of paying him whatever he wants.  And not “more than IU could ever dream of”.  More of whether we are ok to outbid them and get to that number first.

Yeah, this.

In the last year there's easily available data for (2018-2019), Arkansas and IU were very similar in terms of athletic department revenues. Any money they have is based on boosters and alumni throwing money at the basketball program. Pretty sure IU has some of that, too.
