Hopkins is an example of why it doesn’t work. He just went 5-21 at Washington. Extremely underwhelming year last year with two NBA players.Feel like there’s a big jump in responsibility from being an assistant to head coach that I’d rather the guy show that he can handle it at a smaller school first.

IF Moser does lead Loyola to another Final Four, I can get behind IU hiring him. My only point is that if they lost to Illinois we wouldn't be talking about him. That being said if he can get some wins this weekend (beat Oregon State and knock off Houston or Syracuse) that makes him a lot more attractive of a hire. It's hard to make a final four. Making two in four years is pretty good. 

Maybe this isn’t bad that it opened our eyes to him though.

 

one thing that might make it easier for him to leave is this team has several seniors. I think 5 of their top 6 scorers are seniors.

Another interesting note, I thought, there are 3 indiana kids on that team. We, of course, all knew Damezi, but there is the Hall Kid from Greenfield, and then Will Alcock from Zionsville.

As a board, we are terribly splintered.  Not just in terms of who the next coach should be but also should it be an IU guy or not.  When the next coach is announced, some of us are going to be extremely disappointed and some even angry.  Emotions will run high and we will have a posting frenzy.  It's perfectly OK to vent frustration over the selection but let's keep it civil and not let our board go into a full attack mode against the new coach or against each other.   I'm still putting my chips on Dolson to make the right decision for the long term and not just win a popularity contest from btb.

 

I’ve told you before to keep you’re reasonableness and nuance to yourself, but you never learn.

I don't know the history of Dutcher -- how long was he an assistant and how long was he considered their coach in waiting?  I know a lot of guys become head coaches after being an assistant at that school, but how many are hired as quote-unquote coach in waiting?

Of course, at Michigan State, they are guaranteed not to hire at least one of their associate head coaches after Izzo retires. :)

Also be an example of not going overboard on a coaches first year.    He got them to the tournament and I remember people on here saying maybe we should of hired him because of the success he had early.   A couple years later and it’s a dumpster fire

Musselman is cheesy but I don’t think he’s weird like Crean. By the end of Creans tenure he became a meme.

He was Fischer’s right hand man for a very long time.  Followed him from Michigan to San Diego St

Unfortunately, no. Just think he is waiting for a couple coaches to become available. Hopefully their agent has said we're interested but he has to wait until their season is over.  Then if we fail when when happens we'll have Beilein as a fall back.  JMO

Well said and thank you!!! The worst thing we can do is bash the new coach and not support them. Feelings aside, we need to try to come together and support who is over the men’s basketball program.

Yea, I'm a part time season ticket holder at UW and chuckle when I read stories from idiots who think IU didn't give Archie enough time. Trust me if Hop has another bottom half of the Pac 12 finish next year he will be gone. Also I chuckle with people who think IU is done forever.  UW football has a couple of national titles and had trouble replacing a legend (Don James). Went winless under Ty Willingham then eventually found the right guy and was in the college football playoffs a few years later and have a couple of Rose Bowls. The same people said the same thing about unreasonable crazy football fans at UW. Find the right coach and IU hoops will be back....quickly.
