Will Wade is more Cig than McCollum. There are no rose colored glasses. He’s one of the best hire-able coaches available not in power 4. Simple as that.

I'd give Cig another season before you crown him.  We played 2 good teams all season and got torched both times.  He was also able to bring a bunch of his JM guys with him.  Just reminds me of Tom Allen's covid year where we didn't beat a single team that finished in the top 25 and he got a near $40M buyout for it then the wheels came off.  Many of us called it at the time.  Expect a lot of 7-5 finishes from Cig which is certainly fine.

Have you actually paid attention to the hires of power conference teams lately. Show me all of these power conference coaches leaving their jobs for another power conference team. You have a guy like Cal who wanted out of UK and UL was ready for a change but you don't see successful coaches leaving.
To me UK hiring Pope is the Equivalent of us hiring Brownell. UL hiring Kelsey would he no different than us hiring McCollum.

I don't understand the college basketball landscape at all. I don't understand what 9, 10, 11 million per year will get you anymore. If we don't finally just make someone, that is worth it, the highest paid coach in college basketball....I just don't understand at all. It communicates one of three things to me. Either the IU job is just not an attractive job anymore to any top coach, or we aren't serious about turning this around, or both. Pay enough money, and you're going to get the best out there.

The cig love is over the top based on one season. This year's schedule is much harder. This year is his true test. They will say he isn't tom allen but the Allen love was the same after the covid year.

They’re set up to lose four guys next year only one of which averages double figures and and two that average more than 20 minutes per game.

I don't see Scott hiring a Woody caliber replacement (Brownell etc.) Imo he's either going for the GRAND SLAM or the next big up and comer. Sideways move cannot be in his cards. He's smarter than that.

Every year isn't going to be title-contending. I realize this is a difficult thing to accept in the era of NIL and the portal. 

That does change things a bit. Results should be expected sooner than before when you have de facto free agency. 

He's never done that so it's a risk but our NIL should help with that. I'd look for transfers from Marquette, A&M, TTU especially. His first roster, like virtually every new hire, will not be his best. Will take time to put his system in (like for all coaches). He plays efficient basketball... I can't believe that's being held against him so much, lol. 

UConn has won 6 titles since '99, that's 20% of the available titles.

Hurley took 4 years to figure it out and went back to back in his 5th and 6th years.

They had some lackluster years in the beginning. 

This is a talented coach. If UConn could give Hurley time, IU should give McCollum time. 

People who aren't okay with the idea of it taking some time need to get over the idea our **** smells like roses just because we're Indiana.

What? I’m not upset at what you’re saying. It just isn’t believable, unless one of two things is true. And for the second time, to paraphrase myself since you again ignored what I said.
 

Either Scott Dolson is maybe the dumbest person on earth for allowing someone like Stevens who is in an infinitely more cushy job have five weeks to think it over (or longer since we have been squarely on the bubble the entire time). Or Brad Stevens is being begged to take a job for 70 million dollars and can’t quite make up his mind like he’s getting dressed for prom. It’s absurd on its face on both accounts.

The most logical explanation is there was possibly an initial agreement. Hence, tons of smoke, which cleared out within a week when he probably told Dolson no. Since, it’s been played close to the vest. It doesn’t have to be more complicated than that. Or, which I’ve said twice now, the agreement is still in place, which I personally think is unlikely, but still possible.

Meaning he took a bunch of D2 players to D1, got them to perform at higher level than what was previously accomplished by a former, highly touted coach in DeVries, and beat teams in Power 4 conferences.
