Yes. People also say “you are what your record says you are” about Collins all the time. When context is convenient for their narrative, people shout it from the rooftops. When context is inconvenient for their narrative, people ignore it. Lol

My point is that both context and the total record are relevant. It's a balancing test with many, many factors.

My summary point about Beard (or others) is that if we are only judging a coach's record by objective wins/losses or only by context, we are missing a good part of the relevant information.

100% agree.

If only the world were as reasonable and intellectually efficient as us and the rest of BTB, Stu… there’d be everlasting peace and no more hunger…

Good lord, not sure if it's an issue with others, but I know my wife would still **** me even if I rooted for Beard.

But she also doesn't think a man should have to get the **** beat out of him and let it happen just because of the gender of the one who's laying the @$$ whoopin.

1 full week of Cronin, Turgeon wasn't enjoyable for alot of people either. But, we went through it

So Trilly is clearly getting his info from his from this board then. Got it...

Yea.  Isaac’s made up stuff made it to the Trilly discord in like two seconds.  It’s hard to believe anything that shows up on there.  For instance yesterday there were all those Otz rumors… almost certainly all nonsense and noise.

None of those.  I am just not a POS that thinks what he did was OK.  I am a male in his 40s.  But way to go to show your true colors there…

The Knight comment…..We need a reboot of this program.  Just ditch the past and move on.  It’s holding us back.  That’s my point.  No one should give two craps whether a coach is associated with Knight.  It shouldn’t even be a criteria.

I may have missed it, but I haven’t seen a single person say what Beard did was ok. But let chill will characterizing people as POS.

Not really. Here are Beard's records at Power 5 schools (omitting the shortened, final season at UT):

18-14 (6-12)

27-10 (11-7)

31-7 (14-4)

18-13 (9-9)

18-11 (9-8)

22-12 (10-8)

20-12 (7-11)

21-9 (10-7)

Take away a big year 3, and that's very Woodson-esque.

If I showed you that resume with any other name attached to it, people wouldn't get nearly as excited as they do when it's Chris Beard. And that's before we even get into the baggage.

Beard has done this at schools that are not easy to win at. Heck, he probably wins a Title at TTU if not for the corner 3 from the UVA player in the title game. What he’s done at Ole Miss is nothing short of remarkable. Beard would win big here…it’s the exact reason why we’re looking at him…or as Rabjohns put it “thawing of the ice.”

Indiana is at a fork in the road…do we want to have a REaL chance of winning again or do we go and hire another less than able or more risky coach with no high major experience while hoping for the next “Bo Ryan?” Far too often we’ve taken the wrong road which has led us to where we are. How many times over the years could we have had Pearl, Pitino, kept the HOF coach like Sampson? Multiple times. Instead, we hire the guy who is boring and doesn’t fit in the fishbowl at IUBB. It doesn’t work. If we end up getting a Schertz, McCollum, etc over Beard that will be a very tough pill to swallow as it’s the exact same play that we’ve made (sans Sampson) over the past 25 years.

If people think BTB is like a pack of rabid dogs, that discord is the stuff of aliens and savages… I was in it last offseason for a month but it was just too much for me to keep up with in there lol

If you can get Beard for maybe 4 million then try to run it by the president. But both know their jobs would be on the line. I've already heard of professors on campus who said they would have people follow him around town taking pictures of him getting drunk like he still does in Oxford. He would make it through the football season. It's a no go

....Beard's wife after he wins the BIGTEN....lol

One can certainly interpret Beard's record as someone who could win here.

But you could also interpret it as Beard putting together an outlier season or two early at Texas Tech, and then reverting to his actual ability level there after. He wouldn't be the only coach that shines bright early at a school, but is unable to maintain it.

Again, what McCasland has done at Texas Tech makes Beard's 3rd and 4th seasons there more concerning.

That's totally fair. I'm just talking final records. I have no doubt Beard's teams are consistently more competitive. But I don't think people would sign up for those end results.

People keep saying "Beard wins." But he actually doesn't.

His tournament record is really good, no doubt bolstered by a run to the final game, but 11-5 is really good overall.  I agree with you though, I’d like to see a little better regular season & conf win %.
