That’s why he’s a risk. But he’s learned from the best of the best at the top of the top for 15 years. He’s a dude. And he’s a dude at Duke, not at some school that would be a five point neutral court underdog to the current IU trainwreck.

I have a lot of respect for coming up through the ranks and blazing your own trail as McCollum has. I am bullish on him. That said… like you, and I think a majority of the board, ideally it’s far more preferable to get someone who is a proven commodity at the P5 level. One year at Drake isn’t enough for me to say he’s ready to coach Indiana when you keep in mind he’d have to build a whole new roster for the first time at the D1 level (can’t bring his D2 team with him).

Theres just so much we don’t know about him and the interviews would have to be very extensive. We don’t know how he’d react to a huge fanbase watching his every move.

Many higher floor options right now

Can you show me what National Championship talent you're talking about?  I can think of Kyle Guy, and that was one guy damn near a decade ago.  Maybe I'm missing on all the National Championship talent from Indiana you're talking about?

Was there any time frame put on his post?

And btw, UVA won in 2019. Hardly 10 years ago.

Besides Guy, UNC had May and Montessori.

Duke had the Plumlees.

Sure there are others.

Any Better Call Saul fans?

Let me reiterate before posting this I have tremendous respect for him and do think he's going to be successful at the P5 level. Probably haunt us at Iowa for the next 20 years with our luck. But the idea of handing him the keys and saying - go and recruit your first Big 10 level roster (13 scholarships - and he's got none to start with apparently from Drake) - and hire your first P5 level staff. And do that within the span of like 2 weeks... Not to mention the entire aspect of dealing with donors, admin, etc. off-court obligations.

Makes me think of this scene where Jimmy is McCollum and the interviewers are IU lol.

"I just come in did that little song and dance (one year at Drake) and... I'm in?"

I’m with you here, while I’m not sure I’d be happy if I was Miami, this makes a lot more sense than someone just scratching the surface of D1, let alone a high major monstrosity like Indiana.

I loved that series, that episode where Howard gets killed still haunts me! Excellent! Still disagree on McCollum!

It really isn’t a big deal. I’m sure I’ll find a good excuse for my kids as to why Christmas 2025 is cancelled.

If Brad Stevens is our head coach next season, the ad blocker dies, and the kids get new bikes. On my honor. If it’s Cronin the ad blocker stays, and Hovsanta is laid off.

Great series! And hey… if we hire him, I’ll personally be pretty optimistic and watching with GREAT anticipation! Little bit of anxiety too until we saw his roster. Would certainly be a fun offseason news cycle.

I understand everyone’s hesitation. Hey, I bet you were a “The Americans” fan too!

There are certainly some.  But man the ones you listed are far between.  Hardly a trend.   I mean, im old and I played against Sean May

Multiple high major coaches just in the last week have said things to the effect of “high school recruiting is worthless now,” including pitino.

High school recruiting is worthless to a 72-year-old that has a window of 2 years that isn't looking to build a program and just wants to assemble talent for his final 2 years.  If you are looking to develop a culture and long-term program, high school recruiting is still important.
