General Coach Candidate News

Recommended Posts

After reading these weeks of “ next coach” conversations, I think it’s fortunate that it’s not up to this board  to hire the next coach. One would never get hired. ( I have no favorite ) Luckily , Dolson is leading the decision process and not any of us participants. Hiring a coach is a subjective decision as Nostradamus is not hiring so it’s all a crapshoot of sorts.

McDermott gives me big fish in a small pond but would not survive in the big pond vibes. I have no reason why just my gut feeling

But a coach who admits he needs alcohol after a stressful day doesn't make you have concerns. Would this pond be too big for him to keep his stress reliever under control?

Wow….I love Cignetti’s personality, he had to change the culture here from a team that expected to lose to one that expected to win. I hope he doesn’t change a thing. I don’t think any of the coaches on our radar have that level of cockiness so I don’t think you have to worry. I wasn’t referring to his personality I was referring to his ability to assess talent and find the right players to plug into his system.

That’s completely fair points for sure

No way we’re buying that Dusty is unavailable b/c his buyout is now $7.5M and he said the things he should say to keep the noise down. We could double his salary and give Michigan $10M just for fun. Aren’t we discussing Cronin being a serious candidate with like a $16M buyout? If Dusty has even a shred of interest, he’s no less in play than he was yesterday.

This place would be basically nothing but charred embers if it happened, and it won’t, but they could do far, far worse than Chris Collins. How many Northwestern games have you watched in which you felt like the guy got straight up out-coached? Not sure I’ve ever seen 1.

I would absolutely be okay with a Collins, after a few more get crossed off. Would love to see his system ran with better athletes. Great bloodline.

His X’s and O’s I assume are good but can he recruit with money he’s provided? I have zero desire for him to recruit most of the players he has at Northwestern as I’d want him to shoot much hire but there is no proof he can’t cheat recruit those high end players and that’s why I’m skeptical of him.

A school is under no obligation to consider any candidate.

If Beard were to be the coach at IU, I would still be rooting for the team.  But arguing back and forth about his accusations is pretty pointless.  IU wasn't comfortable with his background prior to the situation.

Which is why I am refusing to take the bait, even though a number of posters keep throwing the bait out there and calling other posters nasty names and making political comments that are suppose to be against the TOS.

His resume is devoid of any P5 experience, and all but devoid of D1 experience.

Tell me why he’s not Ray Harper part 2.

Mcollum is NOT the guy. He’s a candidate for a school like Iowa. Not Indiana. He could very well be a Ray Harper, or a Todd Licklighter or John Groce…this list goes on.

Very good point. Rather amazing you have a few - not many - but a few of the same posters that resort to ad hominem attacks  to others that are pro Beard and willing to look at him as a candidate. Guarantee these are the same people who claim they’re the “tolerant” ones too. It’s pretty tiresome.

Love his energy and has plenty of connections. And a ringing endorsement from Coach K would carry some weight. Not saying he's a sure thing, but man would love to see him with more talent.

For my money if this gets by Drew at this point, I go straight to McCollum.

I know his offense isn’t quite the change of pace we’re hoping for but his resume is something i’m absolutely willing to take a chance on.

If they get to McCollum they better have exhausted all other reasonable candidates and I mean ALL other reasonable candidates before they decide to roll that doobie and smoke it

Honestly, and these guys aren’t even my 5th or 6th choices but you would need to go through Cronin and Buzz and maybe a couple others before you get to McCollum. McCollum may end up being a great coach…but at this particular time, IMO, we look elsewhere.
