OK, you're right and I'm so absolutely wrong.

I guess the only option is to lure highly successful, extremely well payed old men away from established Power 5 programs

I know we can because we're Indiana, but if they all say no then what, shut the program down? No bright young minds allowed.

There is a wide range of candidates that are young, successful, have D1 experience, and are not at established P5 programs that would be very interested in becoming the head coach at IU.

Bright young minds can also have real D1, and even real P5 experience.

Huh... Doesn't seem like it's been that long for them. Have we been in Woody hell forever?

Turns out we have been in Woody hell the same amount of time Oklahoma has been in Moser hell. Hopefully we both are able to escape.

I have complete confidence in Scot Dolson. Some say he's playing chess while others are playing checkers.  Based on the Cig hire I think it's more like he's a computer. He used consultants to come up potential FB hires, and his own team to do background checks and vet them. He fed all that into his brain, and decided who he wanted and was ready to roll within a few days after he fired Allen. I bet he even had contingency candidates.

I believe he's been doing the same thing with this hire, and has been working on this well before the Woodson "retirement". I think he's also been keeping this under wraps, and knows a leak could cause his guy to back out. If i remember that was a requirement when we hired Bob Knight.  I also think he has a contingency plan in case #1 doesn't work out.  However my gut says he "has his guy" but the timing isn't right and probably won't be until the IU season and maybe others are over.

I know absolutely no one connected to the hire.  Just my 2 cents.

I feel the exact same way.

I grew up following UC, before switching to IU after a move. I enjoyed watching Cronin once a year in the tournament, mostly for his teams’ defense and effort, though they usually lost too early. But watching Cronin for a full season was not very fun. Not because of wins and losses but because he can just be sour and negative while leading teams that are very slow and physical on defense.

His final four offense was an exception, led by players he did not recruit.

I'm not going to speak for the others but I will :-) but I don't think you will see them on here sharing info unless it's Isaac. When we do and then Goodman releases a flimsy statement we get called names, bashed, and everything else. I know AP has been hearing it on the discord, I heard it here every day since last Friday, and RTZ just seems like Jerry staying away till the season gets closer to being over. It's easier to just discuss amongst ourselves.

I will continue on the coaching candidate posts because I enjoy it but that's about it. If we don't get our top 2 I like McDermott, OTZ, and McCollum. That's about it for me. I could get used to Drew but the church stuff loses me quickly. Cronin is OK, I think he would win but just not my cup of tea.

Careful, we’ve already established a round only counts if it’s the one you lose in lol.

Dude if an IU coach did that….we should all be celebrating him for life after the last 20 so effing years

we have been irrelevant for quite some time.  if becoming relevant means hiring Cronin(which some think is a boring hire) and we settle for yearly tourney appearances, sprinkling in runs to the sweet 16s and sometimes further, by all means sign me up.  We have not had this type of success in quite some time. If you think otherwise, you are blind.  Rome was not built overnight.

He wins, google him(no shot at Cig here).  With how NIL in constructed, when/if he is the coach and he gets IU back to winning(winning cures alot) those kids leaving Indiana to go elsewhere will want to come to IU and play.  I am looking at you Mullins here.

Yes, I want more banners on the wall. But let's be honest, how many posters here actually saw the last title that IU won?  Not me, I was boring in 1990.  Get this team back to constant tourney runs, big ten champions, etc and let the rest fall into place.

My wife said I was boring in 1990 also! Just having fun with you.

In a world where words dance and cleverly chime,

Rico declared with a laugh, “I’m not one for rhyme!”

With a wink and a grin, he claimed it was crime,

To force every thought into metrical time.

He’d rather speak freely than play with the sound,

Said his mind was too vast to be tightly bound.

“Why must I conform to this rhythmic round?

Let my thoughts flow like rivers, unshackled and unbound!”
