Right behind Arkansas (splashy name new hire coach, totally new roster), right above Marquette, and UK was 23 (less splashy new hire coach, totally new roster). So maybe I’m low!

My Hometown has won the girls small school state title back to back with a coach named Hinton. They were absolutely horrible before with the previous coach. You old guys probably recognize that name from years ago but it's his daughter who's the coach. She could win in any class. I guess the point I'm trying to make is good coaching isn't just happening in power conferences and being gun shy because of the Miller debacle shouldn't stop us from looking at up and comers.I would be thrilled with McCollum. The dude wins. Google him. Not to far away from me. Her husband was my high school coach at Paoli. He did some recruting back in the day GloryDays 1

When we do and then Goodman releases a flimsy statement we get called names, bashed, and everything else. I know AP has been hearing it on the discord, I heard it here every day since last Friday, and RTZ just seems like Jerry staying away till the season gets closer to being over. It's easier to just discuss amongst ourselves. I will continue on the coaching candidate posts because I enjoy it but that's about it. If we don't get our top 2 I like McDermott, OTZ, and McCollum. That's about it for me. I could get used to Drew but the church stuff loses me quickly. Cronin is OK, I think he would win but just not my cup of tea. I get Drew has the Indiana (state) ties and he's done very well at Baylor, but he just seems like a really, really, bad fit. I can't believe he's a real candidate. Chris007 1

The talent in the football portal was lower last year because the rev share $ starting next season helped teams keep players. The rev share $ going to bball is smaller, but it may also reduce portal talent this year to some extent. I think we are about to do a Louisville/UK mega reset — almost entirely new roster. My guess is with a portal perhaps a little down and all the unknowns we will be, IU will be hard to put in the top-25.

Just saying. There is a hell of a massive difference between winning and running a successful program in D2 versus at a top ten budget program. I think a good coach can win anywhere especially with NIL and there's plenty of examples, Kelsey, May and maybe Pope being examples. I'm pretty sure you know the Hinton remark was to point out coaching isn't defined at what level you're at at the time and if a large class school in the state was looking for a coach they should look at her. Her dad is a hall of famer.Jesus way to twist something into an argument.

That comes after a win Saturday at Southern Cal -- giving them an LA sweep. Scratch Cronin off the list. Add Ben Johnson! I don't want him, but he has really turned Minnesota around this year.
DSUMMITT Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I'm sure I'm being paranoid/over thinking this but is this year a bad year to evaluate Coaches? Or maybe coaches evaluations have to be weighted differently then anything before these big changes. 1) How did a coach perform pre-TP and pre-NIL? Does that matter as much? Seems you would have to evaluate if they had better talent vs minimal talent - for me there was a larger disparity of talent in these years so that has to be taken into effect for or against depending on what school they were at. 2) After TP and NIL? What was their 'budget' - how well did they spend it? If they had none - how did their team change (lost talent)? GM evaluation along with coaching. I think you have to understand budget and coaching pre and post NIL - along with the other. I guess I say it's a 'bad' year cause do we have a good sample size of how well Coaches are embracing this new model? Plus the model is changing probably in the next year ot 2 - so how well did they adept to change? Jet812 and BannerVille 2

realTomCrean Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Great point above @DSUMMITT but I also see it as a great evaluation tool for certain coaches, such as Dusty May. "Can you effectively recruit an entire roster in a single year?" Dusty is one of the biggest winners from NIL new coaching jobs, whereas people like Shrewsbury at ND has been hurt from lack of success in navigation of NIL era roster rebuilds. AD's and committees will have to use great discernment in deciphering whether it is the coach struggling with NIL or university regulations/lack of funds causing the failure.
