We toss around IU's NIL in many posts - but which would you take

1) A top 2 or 3 coach in the game but only 1/2 the current NIL

2) Top NIL in the country and slightly above average coach

No brainer, all the above!

If they are mutually exclusive, most definitely the first option.  Players want to play for winning coaches, even with a reduced NIL budget

Nobody really thinks it’s Brad Stevens. And every article or tweet from any professional reporter who’s willing to put their name on it has specifically said it isn’t Brad Stevens. It would honestly be kind of weird for Dolson to come out and address a very tiny minority of people on social media and message boards.

I should clarify, when I wrote “nobody” that isn’t a shot at anybody here. I just mean fans writ large who watch games, read articles, watch highlights but don’t spend time on message boards and whatnot. That’s probably like 90% of all fans.

I don’t think there’s some general perception out there that we’re getting Brad Stevens that needs publicly rebutted. Out of sight, out of mind for most fans.

For context, I was at a bar watching basketball yesterday with a group of guys who all follow high school and college basketball—a couple IU fans and others not.  But not really message board guys, imo. When talking about the IU job not one person brought up Stevens. Dusty May was probably the most talked about, but in fairness the Michigan game was on. Interestingly, even the non-IU fans—except one Purdue fan hater—seemed to think May would be going to IU.

If our current team could execute Chaneys matchup zone we’d be ranked in the top 10. That was one tough coach!

Wish he could have gotten hold of Calamari during that Temple/UMass press conference .I'll kill you MF!

Loved John Chaney and agreed with his sentiment.

#1 is more or less Purdue.  They may have a little more than 50% of our NIL, 2/3 at most though.  And yea maybe Matt isn’t top 2 or 3, but he is up there.

I’d take #1 and pray a great coach can get players at a discount.

I think McCollum is coaching in the Big Ten next season.

I'd be happy if it was here but it'll be Iowa.So two great up and comers we miss on and have to coach against if Dusty stays at UM.

And better than Crean. Better than Sampson at IU since he didn’t make it two full years. And better than Davis. As unexciting as he is, Cronin would be the best hire since Sampson and probably have the best tenure since Knight. That’s not high praise for Cronin. I think it applies to many potential candidates this cycle.

That's a very sad commentary on the state of Indiana basketball... historically crap for 30+ years... let's get a guy with no off-court issues who can turn this around... please...

Neo? You want Keanu Reeves to coach basketball here? /s

While I love Keanu Reaves, the chosen one is Anakin Skywalker. Or Brad Stevens :)

We really need to find a way to relax for a month. Nothing is happening right now

Based on the last 25 years of coach hiring decisions at IU, I'm worried that a bad result might be inevitable.  Meantime, we should relax and enjoy it.

My statement above will probably be misinterpreted.

IndyStar poo poo’d the rumors in their article this morning (Niziolek and Osterman), they wrote, “The overwhelming majority of noise and fury filtering through the IU basketball ecosystem right now is, to use an industry term, crap.”

Meh -- they didn't talk about any rumors.  They followed up that statement with "a lack of new, though, does not mean a lack of action."  I think they were just saying that they didn't have enough information on any rumor regardless of what it is to consider it 'news'.
