I agree everyone deserves a 2nd chance but it’s hard for me to give him one at a school I love.  Having a mother, wife, and daughter it would be very hard for me to support the hire, wins or not.  No place for domestic violence (and I’m not saying you condone that in any way). That’s just my opinion and it really only matters to me I guess.  Very, very good coach, just the wrong kind of crime for myself to be able to forgive.

Well it's a good thing that neither one of those 3 will ever be hanging around Beard lol

Why wouldn’t they be around him drunk at Nick’s or another establishment? He’s still known to go out in public and drink at bars in Oxford.

Let me be clear.

I am not all in on the Chris Beard bandwagon.

If we could get Stevens, May, Oates or TJ, I would be ecstatic.

Just want to keep an open mind when it comes to Beard

Beard’s no riskier than a lot of the other names being thrown out. His risks are just different. I’d feel more comfortable with that risk than the other because the off court stuff is entirely within his control. You could do everything right basketball wise but still not get the results IU wants. Beard is as good a bet at getting those results as any coach out there.

Hey guys :)

I haven’t been on in a couple weeks.  It looks like this is the place to be lol.  Can someone provide a quick recap on where we are at or DM me?  I don’t think I can read this many pages lol.

We were hiring Stevens until yesterday when Jeff Goodman kicked us in the nuts with the proclamation Stevens told him he isn't leaving Boston.  Many of us were still in the denial stage until Chris suckered punched us with a Brad Brownell rumor he was told.  Now, we are so distraught over the thought of Brad Brownell that many of us are contemplating our life choices that led us to being IU basketball fans.

My 2 cents re: Beard, and I don’t mean to get religious so if this needs to be deleted due to site rules, I understand:

the only way a man can truly change, IMHO, is through the Lord.  Obviously, the Bible preaches second chances, as that is essentially what being saved by grace is.  And while we may not have all been the perpetrator in a DV situation, sin is sin and we all are guilty of that.

IF, (and that’s a big if) Beard has repented, truly repented and working towards saintification, and the school/admins believe that to also be true after vetting him/the situation, who I am to judge.  I am not sinless and cannot cast the first stone, as the Good Book says.

Do I believe the above to be true? No.  But could it? Sure.

Completely understand. As I said, his hiring would be divisive.

I have a wife, daughters, granddaughters and soon a great-granddaughter. I get it. I also try to put myself in other’s shoes.

I bet most everyone has something in their past that they don’t want to be made public.

Faith can be the foundation for change. Hoping Chris can embrace that whether he comes to Bloomington or not

I agree we often judge but aren’t THE Judge.  I’m rooting for him too and hope that was just an isolated, idiotic incident and he bettered himself because of it.

Much like Steuben, I believe Beard would fly as straight as humanly possible if hired. I think that's how much he wants this job. Besides, I dont care if he's in a bar drinking or not. If he truly is out in Oxford getting drunk and still turning Ole Miss, of all places, into a top 25 basketball team, more power to him

To those that follow this stuff, who's on UNC's coaching hot board?  It feels like they're going to need a coach after the season too

This writer has one guy he doesn't want to see at UNC and that is Will Wade

The risks are bigger.  Hire him and every media piece will mention how IU got comfortable with his DV issues.  Fair or unfair IU will be associated with DV which is bad for our brand/image.  Some donors and fans will be upset, so we have division there.  If he has a repeat issue, and he continues to drink which doesn’t help, Scott is 100% fired and maybe Pam too.  No other coach brings these risks.

It’s hard to see how this could work.  If he had quit drinking and shown how he changed and called Pam/Scott to explain how different he is and how nothing will go wrong… maybe.  I see no signs of that, UK, UM, and UL didn’t look at him.

Breaking Bad is Stevens favorite tv show. An IU grad produced it. Dolson had him set up the set and met Brad there to say let’s team up to win a championship.

Mike Ehrnentraut was played by Jonathan Banks who attended IU. His daughter partied with us in the villas.

My thoughts on the last gazillion pages that was hard to catch up on:

1.  I am staying in the hopeful camp with Stevens.  Like others have said a lot of things do not make sense. And the statement and sources thing from Goodman does not convince me of anything.  Strange things happen in these things and I will going to hold off on making any declarations about this until we let things play out.

2.  If Stevens ends up being a No, then I sure hope we back up the brinks truck and anything else needed to bring Dusty May home to Bloomington.

3.  Even if we do not get one of those top 2 guys there are still several good options available to Indiana and we can still come out of this search with a really good coach and be way better off than with Woody.

4.  I love a lot of things about Beard.  But as the father of 4 daughters and a high school girls basketball coach I just cannot support him from the things we know.  If he is selected, I will give him and Dolson the benefit of the doubt and look for a changed person, but hopefully we do not have to go down that road.

5.  Brad Brownell?  No thanks.  If we end up with him then things have gone way off the tracks and we are in a real mess.

6.  I appreciate the insiders around here who share their knowledge.  Coaching searches are a highlight of this place.

7.  I will end this Tad Talk with a question for all of you:  Is Scotty R an @$$ in real life or does he just play one on message boards???
