Yes, he deserves an interview for sure. Same with Travis Steele.

Let’s see…we have BobKnight’sGhost and Ghost of Rick Majerus.  We need a third ghost.  I suppose we could bring back Lou Watson…or Casper the Friendly Ghost…but the Ghost of Christmas Future just kinda feels like our guy.   lol.  :)

I want a consistent year in, year out identity of gritty, maximum effort, toughness, bare knuckle basketball. That requires a culture that reflects a personality type. I believe that's what IU nation would embrace. That's who we are I think. We're a gritty,  basketball-educated fan base that sees through gimmick, half-assed basketball. Dusty would be successful but I have no idea what a Dusty culture would look like. Toughness will win a lot of games and when matched with talent you have a juggernaut. The coaches out there that I admire for that are Sampson, Pitino, Beard and Otzweiler. 3 of those have had issues. 2 of those are old. Otzweiler isn't leaving his wife's school.  I keep coming back to Beard.

Houston just won at Arizona. Looking at record 7-0 on road. GRIT.

Again, just my opinion based on my experience working in PR for an NBA team, but my experience is that fans massively overrate this idea of smokescreens.

I've been a part of GM's being hired, coaches being hired/fired, stars being traded, etc., and while it's been a long time that I worked there and the landscape has changed, ive never been a part of a conversation about sending out smokescreens or getting false information to reporters to get them off the scent, etc.

I'm not saying it never happens, but not nearly to level fans think.

One million percent yes!

You'll never hear me give any credence to smokescreens.

Successful people say what they mean, but only when they are ready to say it.

Tell me again how the last Knight guy did around these parts?

Listen…I get why people don’t like Beard, I’m simply saying that regardless, there are plenty of people here that would support him. Refer back to the poll taken on this site…and Woodson was atrocious, but I also don’t think he’s as good of a coach.

I think where I have a problem is let’s say our insiders are right and he’s actually taking the job it’s silly to me for him to be like I’m not a candidate and a week later takes the job. Also people were saying Dolson and crew seemed happy but I just don’t see that us hiring Stevens would be the only reason they would be happy. People even laugh and joke around at funerals.

If he ends up the coach, and we should all take the believe it when it happens stance because IMO the odds are slim, he wouldn't be the first to say something like that then take the job.

I agree...Beard would win and win big.

Liking him has nothing to do with it.  UK, UL and Michigan all could have hired him and didn’t.  Why do you suppose that was??

There's nothing wrong with wanting a winner—IU hasn't had one in decades. Most fans would overlook his past if he delivered championships. Be honest—you would too. Beard has proven he can win (nearly took Texas Tech to a title) and has ties to Coach Knight, who, let’s be real, wasn’t perfect either. But IU fans don’t dwell on that—because he won and graduated his kids. Those days are gone with NIL. These kids aren't looking for an education. They're looking for a payday. Its sad but that's the current landscape.

Beard has serious baggage, no doubt. But at this point, I don’t care—I want to see IU win big in my lifetime. I’m tired of gambling on "maybe one day" coaches.

That said, IU’s administration won’t hire him. It might backfire, and if he racks up titles elsewhere, no one will be saying, "Yeah, but he’s a bad guy." Most top coaches have skeletons—except Brad Stevens, which is why everyone loves him.

Bottom line: If Scott Dolson hired Beard, it would mean he did his homework. And I’d trust that.

I never said I thought Beard was getting hired. My guy is Dusty. I was remarking on the fact that there are people that would support Beard. Refer back to poll on this site. You’re new here. Welcome to BTB! So I’m not sure if you’ve seen it.

You gotta admit…GCF is freaking relentless on defense.  He gets through screens like they’re nothing to him.

I just hope IU doesn't go cheap after Stevens said no. Dolson reportedly had $9M+/year lined up to throw at Stevens. Some of that may have been promised only for Stevens but I hope there was plenty that would be available for another quality coach. My fear is that we end up with a risky coach that is hired for $3-4M/year. I want them to spend $6-7M to get someone that is a known winner at the P5 level.

One thing I was told today from the former athlete board that Dolson talks to is don’t be surprised if it’s a Brad, just not the Brad everyone wants. Kind of sad.

Otzelberger? Yeah, locked in at Iowa State...

But Beard will never get a call from Dolson... Sampson is not interested, and Pitino is old and creepy.

And when GCF sets a pick on offense…the guy he picks is dead.  Amazing how he does that.  SMH.  :)

Stealing Underwood from Illinois?

I was afraid of Brad Brownell

A whole lot more people would support almost any other coach than would support Beard. Beard would fracture the fanbase the way others wouldn't. Lots of people would be unhappy with some of the other names on the list but not to the same extent that they would be with Beard.

Based on what? He's won only about 54% of his P4 conference games. That's winning big?

If he didn't have a connection to Knight, people wouldn't be so high on him.

Beard isn't going to happen.
