The FF team wasn't his best team, at all. The one championship level team he had was excellent, I enjoyed watching them.. but his 6 years at UCLA look about like Creans last 6 years. It's just not enough at UCLA and Indiana. I consider a championship team top 30 in offense and defense efficiency rating because that is what you need to win a title. In 23-24 they were third overall in kenpom with top 20 both. That’s championship level. In 22-23 they were number 11 in kenpom with 12 and 16 efficiency ratings respectively. AZ Hoosier Posted February 15 Posted February 15 2 hours ago, LamarCheeks said: FYI, What Cronin said last night about potentially being a candidate at IU (and don't worry; this comes from a free site -- I didn't pirate it). “I just think it's tough to do that stuff during the season. But actually, you know, the whole thing's gotten so crazy because we had a couple coaches that did it. Tony [Bennett] and coach [Jim] Larranaga. They did it. Leonard [Hamilton]. The coach I replaced, it happened to him during the season. I don't like to see that. "As far as me, I would never comment on a coaching situation. It would be wildly inappropriate because I’m the son of a coach, and the way I look at it is that Mike Woodson’s the coach at Indiana. Now, that man’s coaching his basketball team, and he was a national champion. I happen to know him. I know Kenya Hunter on his staff extremely well for many years and have tremendous respect for their kids and their team. "To me, nobody should say anything that distracts anything with them with that. So I just think it would be wildly inappropriate, mostly for what I said, my respect for coach Woodson. He’s over there coaching his team. That’s all that anybody needs to – I understand you guys gotta do your job and ask. That’s my stance on that stuff.” Cross him off... he claimed that Woodson was "a national champion"... if you want to coach here, you have to know the history. Woodson played at Indiana between the 1976 and 1981 championship teams. (Missed it by >| |< that much). Ryno6284 1

Unexpectedflash Posted February 15 Posted February 15 After 8 years of terrible basketball i don’t know if we’re in a position to turn our nose up at some of these coaches that would have us in a very good position

I’m a long time lurker and very rare poster. i’m a huge IU fan that lives out of state so I have no information to contribute. This thread has jumped the shark though. I will be moving on until we actually hire a coach. I trust the A.D. and we should let him do his job and support him. For my parting advice, if there are posters that you don’t like, block them and don’t reply to them that’s tempting as it is. They tend to go away when they don’t get the attention they want. Go Hoosiers! You can give your opinion which is as valid as anyone else’s on the board. I don’t see this thread as only for inside information, I see it as a place for posters to express their opinions about coaching options and provide reasons why we should or shouldn’t select that coach. I don’t mind the trolls that much, and I believe our new coach is one of the coaches being discussed in this thread, I feel like we will all know a lot more about that coach when he is chosen because of this thread. I think it is a great thread!
JaybobHoosier Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 So, assuming the Stevens ship has fully sailed and it’s not a smokescreen, what’s everyone’s top 3? These are mine: - Dusty May - Chris Beard (if fully vetted and IU feels he can succeed off the court. I’m fully aware this is an extreme long shot, but still in my top 3 if IU thinks he’s the guy) - Bruce Pearl I can see the Pearl ship sailing, but I think he would help make IU a national relevant program again before retiring. I think May is the most realistic of the top candidates, but we will see. I think he will do great things at IU, but curious to see how this all unfolds. thebigweave, BtownStrength, BlueDevil and 4 others 7
IUrocker Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Brad didn’t say he wasn’t coming. Why couldn’t he have just flat out said he wasn’t interested in the IU job and wouldn’t be coming? Although I’m not too sure what’s going on, still can’t completely rule it out. Just an odd thing. If not Brad, I really hope we get Dusty. HoosierInParadise, RoadRage and thebigweave 3

OKHOOSIER Posted February 15 Posted February 15 This could be fun, Give me some odds of who you think it will be, I’ll go first: May—I’d say 60%, and the most likely option. I hope his only one year at current job doesn’t matter. McDermott—10%, you have to check here if Dusty is a no IMO Mcasaland—5%, wish it was higher he’s my favorite of the field options, but I don’t think he leaves the state of Texas. Cronin/Buzz/Beard—5% each. Likely doesn’t get this far IMO McCollum—6% chance. Unlikely, but better than the Cronin crew I think. Stevens—4% for the haterz. RoadRage, moyemayhem and thebigweave 3

Idc where they are ranked KenPom, I'm not getting excited about that. realTomCrean 1

If Crean had made a Final Four he'd have been given A LOT more leeway. That said, I was curious about your claim and Cronin's 6 years have absolutely been better than Crean. Here's how the first 6 years of Cronin compare to the last 6 of UCLA when looking at KenPom ratings as well as how the season finished.
