****, my dog is too.  No reason to talk about my dog though.

I still think we're focusing on the wrong things in this search.  Find the best candidate regardless of Midwest ties.  And eliminate Cronin

Does you pup consider themselves a "Doghole"?

This is not directed at Alford Bailey, as he is a longtime and respected poster.  But this would be a good test.  Do we think AH, the ghost, and some of the other newer guys would be able to stay out of a Brad Stevens discussion only post?

No shot, considering as soon as this thread starts talking about other coaches they all disappear.

That said I think I am now:

1. May

2. McDermott

3. Mcasland

4. Field

I don’t care about his Midwest ties, look at his coaching record.

I’m not saying he should be our top candidate, or even top 3, but we’d be silly to not be happy with him as our coach if he can replicate what he’s done at UCLA.

1 team championship level in 6 years is not impressive at UCLA.

True to every other coach search we have:

- Infighting about our resident insiders.

- An influx of new posters with hostile attitudes

- Lines drawn, PRO & CON, about a dozen or so possibilities

- Radio Silence from the AD

- Disappointment, woe, and smugness

After weeks of this, a new coach will be announced.  There will be jubilation from many, angst from others.  Then acceptance.  Then the portal lottery will be the attention grabber.  We will win the portal and spend months predicting our success.

Then season begins, hopefully with positive results for a change.

Exactly this. I’m a long time lurker and very rare poster.  i’m a huge IU fan that lives out of state so I have no information to contribute. This thread has jumped the shark though. I will be moving on until we actually hire a coach.  I trust the A.D. and we should let him do his job and support him.

For my parting advice, if there are posters that you don’t like, block them and don’t reply to them as tempting as it is. They tend to go away when they don’t get the attention they want. Go Hoosiers!

I don’t think May leaves UM after 1 year, so I’m going with McDermott or McCollum!  Let’s get a winner and never look back!

TBH i think if may was going to leave Michigan for us it doesn’t matter if it’s one year or ten years. If he wants to coach his Alma mater and bring them back to greatness the timeline doesn’t really matter

This is what happens when the coach is so bad he needs “retired” midseason but you don’t want to put an interim in place.

Then there is a large gap of time for a coaching search that must be filled with excitement and anticipation because a top 10 paid roster isn’t good enough to make the 68 team field to keep the fans distracted from said coaching search.

And the AD has to wait until the season is over to actually formally do anything. That’s the mess we are in because Woody and crew held the position captive for an extra year to prove to himself he’s a failure.

Sums it up?

Yea,  still think it was smart to not throw an interim guy in the mix who you could get stuck with if they have some success.

Cronin is a very good coach.  Imo he is a high floor, low ceiling guy.  Which might be what IU needs.  I think he would consistently make the tournament here which is something we have lacked since the middle of Tom Crean's tenure.  He's just not very likeable.  We can do much worse than Mick Cronin.  I'm just hoping we can still do better.

He did make the final four and lost on a half court shot at the buzzer. There is not much higher of a ceiling than that

Honest question, because I know there have been plenty over the last 25 years: if Dusty wins the Big 10 and has a very successful career at Michigan for the next 10 years, where would you rank “Woody Gets His 4 Years” amongst all time administration blunders?

Not to worry.  The IU administration will have successfully trashed the IU basketball brand.  We won't have to build one of those more modern 27,000 seat basketball arenas like OSU and UW have.

We are a football school now.

Only problem will be if we keep trying to dribble the football instead of passing.  Some things may never change.

Depends on what you consider championship level. I’d say his final 4 team was the worst in the 3 year stretch from 20-23. His team this year is also top 25 by every metric. So that’s 4 in 6 years of teams id be happy with

The whole Woodson thing is so far from an "administration blunder" as it could be. It was nothing less that corrupt nepotism. A blunder is a mistake, a miscalculation... this was not that. Buckner and Ferguson set this up with the help of guys like Zeke and Wittman... and it was a massive failure in spite of the "setup".

Losing out on May last year was a byproduct of the corruption.

I hope this correct. Just seems unlikely to me, but the heart wants what the heart wants and if we don’t bunk this hire it may be Dusty’s only opportunity to be the coach here. I’m sure that counts for something.

People should honestly start a “no stevens talk coaching candidate thread” that way the people who don’t want to see Stevens stuff can more easily sift through it than reading this thread. It’s annoying when people try to police other posters (not saying you’re doing that)

It’s the opposite though. This is the general coach candidate news thread and it is dominated by talk about 1 non candidate and attempts for others to have other discussions are being shut down.

i haven’t criticized anyone on here, i just have empathy for those that come here to get general coach candidate news and aren’t able to do that because of the Stevens army that has developed and wanted to snuff out all other talk.

Nobody here -- not one single person -- is preventing Dolson from doing his job.

Guessing and speculating and wishing about our next coach has no effect on his work. It's just kind of a fun little thing fans do on a message board about college athletics.
