Purely hypothetical.  Woody's back next year but Walsh, Ya, Hunter all go elsewhere.   Not suggesting all 3 but if any 1, 2 or all 3 depart who's he going to get to replace them and what's the impact on our recruiting efforts?  Impression is Woody's not particularly interested in independent thinking on his staff so who do we end up with?  More of Woody's ex-NBA friends?

He promoted Walsh so I think he would stay in house.  Who’s next in line?  Jordy?

Probably one or both of Calbert and Jordy get promoted with Jordy already in a recruiting role taking the bear of that. Maybe the coaching carousel brings another name we're not thinking of now to the forefront.

I fully agree. Both kinda sadden me. May would be so easy to root for, just like Woody, but I don’t know that he really offers an upgrade or not. He probably does but there would be so many questions.

This may seem crazy but, why don't we hire May and Woody stay on his staff. I want to root for both of the guys. Both care about the program. With May, there are lots of questions. The biggie, recruiting.

Fisch making that statement absolutely scares the hell out of me. Prior to yesterdays game, I was at a 4 out of 10. Now, I'm at that 9.5 range worried. Fisch has been doing this a long time. He's seeing something

If they were to leave, which they could indeed for all sorts of reasons. I see Woodson hiring some younger coaches for recruiting purposes.

So what are we expecting to be the minimum for CMW and company to keep their jobs after the season and what are the odds a change is made.

my opinion is CMW could streak across the court mid-game and he’d still be the coach to begin next year. Short of an home run hire approaching us out of the blue, I’d say we’re stuck. Odds of a change being made is 5%.

As long as Indiana wins at least a couple more games, Woodson will be back. If they lose out somehow, then perhaps I could see a change made.

But again, I think it will take Woodson retiring before him getting let go. Nonetheless, the report when Woodson finally leaves will be “retirement” despite him being let go.

You hearing things?  I know you said hypothetical, but that is interesting!  I've never thought about that.

Yeah, Old Fart, I think you're onto something... Woody ain't gonna change, and he will go down in a flaming pile before he even considers admitting that his way isn't the best way...

Two words: Woody's ego.

I can't see that ever happening. Not saying it's not a good idea, but it's not going to happen.

NOPE!  We've concentrated on what if Woody goes but haven't discussed the possibility that he stays but we have new bench staff for better or for worse and what that could mean.

I don’t things get turned around by adding new assistants. This is a leadership issue. If CMW doesn’t change/adapt things stay status quo imho.

Outside of recruiting, very little. Football HC’s are a little more like CEO’s where the x’s and o’s on something like defense can be “outsourced” to a talented coordinator/assistant coach.

Basketball coaches are like dictators. Ideally, you have a couple trusted advisors/assistants to bounce things off of, but everything flows down from the head coach.

Does anyone trust Woodson hiring one assistant, let alone three as someone else suggested cutting the entire support staff?

I’d turn cartwheels to have Pearl. I Love what he did at USI. Would also be ecstatic with Drew from Baylor. He’s proven he can win against tough teams consistently. Heck, I’d even take Sampson for 5 years if we could get him back. I could be persuaded toward the Dusty train, but I still feel like he has something to prove, personally. I didn’t know he coached with Mike Davis at UAB.

In fairness I think you lean conservatively when it comes to firings (or whatever this would be with woody). Which I generally agree but I'm not sure the IU AD'S are getting much leash from fans and donors anymore. We haven't been good for a long time so people's patience is very thin.

I don't know... But you can guarantee none of the assistants would be better coaches than him... So they'd be horrid, just like the 3 assistants he has now.

If we hire new assistants will Woodson actually listen to them and let them have actual input to the game plan and playing style. If he doesn't then it doesn't matter who the assistants are.

I still don’t get the warm and fuzzies over Dusty

He better getting it going better this year because they have first round bounce written all over them.

I have thought Kenya and Ya were going for awhile. For multiple reasons.

funny how that worries many now when those same guys everyone hates on. Just saying. Is it a loss at all? They aren’t guys on Liam or Queen either.

What recruits has Hunter actually brought in

The only loss from this staff would be CC. Jordan Hulls is just getting started in his career. I’m sure he’s hoping Woodson improves because a new coach likely won’t keep him around.

I agree 100% on this. I also think there’s no chance in hell Woody sticks around to be an advisor if we “gently” push him out. Maybe I’m wrong

Worked with Collier at Butler and Alvarez at Wisconsin.
