3b) there is a horse head in Danny Ainge's bed...

I mean Danny Ainge Prioritized getting Tristian Thompson over Myles Turner this past NBA offseason and now Thompson is on the trading block.  Danny Ainge is a troll.

Sounds like the 3rd call is Beilein who they know will accept.  Sure hope I'm wrong there.

Things could be a lot worse.. I'd still be happy with Belein.. He obviously wouldn't be our 20 year guy, but we'll be in damn good shape by the time he does retire.

They probably have a non-compete clause in their contract where they cannot quit and then go to another NBA team, but like you said, anybody can quit.  Also, I doubt the noncompete has college programs in it and if it did, that would be easy to get thrown out in court I would think.

Oh certainly there is non-compete which wouldn't mean much in this instance like you said. But either way, he could walk away from his job.

Doubt it.  I think we'd be like Minny with Tubby.  Beilein is ancient and would have major trouble recruiting imo.  From reading the posts on this site, Rivals, and Peegs he seems to be the one guy of the realistic hires that a lot of people would be irate over.  We just can't have more apathy.

My only worry with Beilein is that with his age, he might be calling it quits around the same time as some other guys in his age range.  And if he does, that could put us in competition with Duke and North Carolina for coaches.  Then again, if Stevens says no this time, it gives us another potential shot at him in a few years (although this kind of feels like a no or never type thing with him.)

Yeah, at the same time K retires from Duke, and probably some other big name coach, and then IU is the ugly girl looking for a date.

Beilein gets us back to winning right away and when the time comes for him to step down for retirement we'll be back to consistent NCAA tourney appearances, competitive nightly in conference play and no more 1st rd exits in the Big Ten tourney.   At this point you'll have a lot more coaches wanting to take over as the dirty work has been done behind the scenes to get us back towards the glory days.

Would be quite a wild year if Duke, UNC, and Indiana all needed a new coach at the same time.

they came within a shot of beating Duke with a bunch of guys Coach K would never have recruited. That's all I needed to see.

That's true and I don't question Stevens coaching chops....but one game/tourney run/season doesn't a coach make. How many guys parlay a hot streak into a big promotion and contract somewhere and then flounder? I want consistency. Mich St & Wisconsin have been solid for 20 yrs.....THAT is what IU needs again. Be good every year then you have a chance to be great sometimes.

Good thing he made a NC run in 2 consecutive seasons then :)
