Getting caught up this morning and knowing that Jer seems to always pick his words carefully the most interesting part being about the media. Specifically sending a dog whistle to ignore anything from the regional beat. This is interesting. It tells me if there is a leak it may be from a national pundit-- plenty to be drawn from that if you were prone to speculate on who you should have notifications turned on for/what that might mean for a hire. There's my conspiracy theory for the day.

Guys I hate to break it to you, but Scott hasn’t done chit yet.  Maybe he and the firm made a list or something, but nothing specific has been done.  Nobody has been directly talked to.  No contracts drafted. Nothing.   While other schools have announced hires, IU is behind.   No way Scott keeps it this quiet.  He doesn’t have that power vs a big money booster or agent.  If it was anyone of any note It would have been announced or at least leaked already. Face it, the new guy has to get started.  Today, the entire team will enter the portal.   And while it’s not “officially” open, they will be contacted.  Renue, Tucker, and the two guards will be gone.  The new guy will have a team of zero.  Waiting because Mediocre Mike’s feelings will be hurt is a mistake.  Waiting to tell the Celtics or whomever is a mistake.   We had an opportunity to get a head start and it’s blown.  It’s a typical IU cluster farque.

Well…..  I’m not trying to pick on Jerry, I bet he’s a swell fellow & it’s cool that he shares some of what he hears with us, but I’d say there’s pretty good reason for the skepticism considering this is playing out just like last time, only drawn out much longer.  When he says he’Il let the lid off later in the week, it will most likely be to explain how we struck out on the whales.  I envy those of you that are optimistic it’s gonna be a big splash hire, but I’m betting it’s a dud (Brownell) or a big risk (McCollum). No one will be happier to be wrong than me.

Actually that strongly supports McCollum. He’s preparing his team for his first NCAAT. Doesn’t want distractions. They had to slap down the rumor. It suggests the media were over the target.

Look at the most recent hires. Before Cig was hired, the names were Campbell, Har, or even keeping Allen. Before Woodson, Beard and others, and nothing until the day it was announced. Similar with Archie. The last few hires have stayed close to the chest. Agents leak things to get their clients better deals.
