Cronin and Brownell are not on the same level. Mick Cronin made the NCAA tournament 13 consecutive seasons before missing it last year. Brownell made it only 3 of those 13 years.

Agree, and I still don’t think Cronin’s worth a $10 million buyout (as of April 1st) either.

I tend to agree. Dolson isn’t stupid. You don’t fire Woodson to make a lateral move. Bare minimum you either hit a home run or you hire the potential guy (Ben).

Yes, of course this is what logically should happen.

But, this is IU we're talking about here...

It’s going to be a slow weekend on the Indiana news front. Next week will be a big week. If Indiana doesn’t make the tourney, we’ll know if the next coach is in the dance or not (Stevens, etc.,).

I know it’s currently more exciting for us, myself included, that we find out ASAP who our next coach will be.

That being said, it’s always heartbreaking to me when Indiana is not in the bracket. I am willing to hold my breath for the announcement even if just for 4-5 days longer because March needs to be fun dangit. Too many years of politely declining bracket pools because I don’t have a dog in the fight.

I doubt Cronin leaves UCLA anyway. But I think he's a good example of a very good but unsexy coach.

Brownell, the more I look into him, I don't understand why he wasn't fired by Clemson at some point.

We can usually find consolation in that double-digit seed that upsets Purdue, though.

That is why I always think these kind of rumors hurt the program because these rumors have no merit. People come on here and start these rumors thinking it is funny but to me it hurts more than it is funny. Since people want IU to be great again they want to believe anything but when it doesn't happen then they blame the administration for not doing their job.

Yeah, remember how nuts those Ohio state fans were in wanting day fired after he lost to Michigan this year?  Really derailed their season, didn’t it?

sorry, but the worst thing a fan base can be is apathetic.  Winning cures apathy— it’s what happened to IUfb

No reason to play in tourneys with the portal here to stay. Gives coaches and players a chance to get started on a new chapter instead of playing in a meaningless game(s).

Indiana will conclude their season Sunday if they miss out.

You aren't allowed to turn down a Crowne invite, it's in the TV contract.  At least that's been what's been advertised.  So if Indiana gets asked (and they will) they have to go.

"Under terms of the proposed arrangement, the top 16 teams in the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament  — as ranked by the NET — would be required to play in the Fox event even if they are invited to the NIT. Those three leagues have rights deals with Fox. The network also has a rights agreement with the Pac-12, but it is unclear whether that league would be added due to complications arising from the Pac-12’s impending realignment defections."

Yeah and you don't pull the trigger on Miller lite and his $10M buyout to go out and hire Mike freaking Woodson do you?

So will both of those tourneys die off? Or be filled with low majors?

the NIT is on life support, and I can't imagine the CBI continuing with the forcing of the conferences listed teams to play in it and the NIL going along with winning in the Crown.

You sure the woody firing wasn't just damage control in the moment?

I believe this move was calculated and that was to give Woodson his flowers as Dolson knew this would be his last season with the Hoosiers. This gave the fan base to cool off for a few weeks, that’s for sure.

I can't imagine that IU would hold off hiring a coach for the sake of giving the team a chance to make a run in The Crown...

If Indiana doesn’t make the dance. I’m personally expecting an NBA announcement whether it be a Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan. Maybe throw Jay Wright in there, that announcement would be Monday-Wednesday of next week.

If Indiana makes the dance, we’ll find out the following week.

I’d say it’s Brad Stevens / Jay Wright / Billy Donovan. Ben McCollum will go to Iowa. Brownell I don’t believe is a serious candidate despite media rumblings. At least he shouldn’t be a serious candidate. I’d be absolutely shocked if he was the guy.

Now THAT'S a banger... :)

The fan base would have gone nuts if a decision had not yet been made on Woodson...

Trish from the top rope putting out three god-tier names and I am here for it. This is what my gut is telling me, that we have someone that is in a position where they can quietly give Scott an answer and the media runs wild with any name they can get their hands on because they are not getting much information.

You do when your last coach had 0 college basketball coaching experience going into the job and then proceeded to neglect other aspects of the job in year 4.   He calculated his move and acted when the time was right.  You swing for however and then at worst you get a coach like Brownwell that for me personally isn’t in my top 8 however whatever number you want to say he is 10, 11 25 on the list is 400 times better then a current coach that doesn’t respect the college basketball game or grind and doesn’t want to recruit.    I don’t know much but I do know if Brownwell turns out to be the coach his but will be in the gym doing his job trying to make IU better.   It won’t be lack of trying if he fails he will do everything he can to make IU relevant again

At this moment, Ohio State is NET #40, Northwestern is NET #53, and IU is NET #54. But I can certainly see the TV suits demanding Indiana over Northwestern.
