McCollum to Iowa looks very likely. I don't think they'd be willing to spend ~$4.5M on buying out DeVries then pay him more than $3M salary and still have money for basketball NIL. McCollum will be a cheap, great hire for them. He talked a lot about it being important for him that he goes somewhere that he can place first in the conference and NIL being a big part of that.

Sad day when even the hottest mid-major coach decides he can win bigger at Iowa than Indiana, lol.

Our NIL does not make us an elite job. Nobody wants the headache of being here. IUBB is the new IUFB.

Good thing it's easy enough to get excited for Huss or Calhoun. I'd bet on either of those two at the moment.

Man, I’ll bet you are the hit at parties. We will never know if McCollum would rather go to Iowa because he won’t be offered the IU job. These flavor of the day hysterics are…..hysterical.

The handwringing over something that hasn't even happened is what's sad.

You and I seem to align pretty closely on these mid major types. Just curious though on your thoughts regarding Schertz? That seems to be one I'm higher on than you.

I think he is a good coach with a really fun offense. I wouldn't hate the hire, but the defensive metrics for SLU/ISU last year give me a little bit of hesitation. I think he'd definitely be a big upgrade. Young enough he could be here a while. I just haven't done much looking into his personality and just didn't hear as much about him last year not being in Indiana anymore, honestly. Pretty sure @Hovadipo mentioned some bizarre stuff going on with the ISU message boards last year that he may have been involved with?

That's my speculation/memory, not saying he did anything to be clear.

I'd definitely approve of the hire and be excited to follow the program.

Man just when I think things are at peak uncertainty with this coaching search it hits another level. McCollum to Iowa makes a lot of sense (DeVries I think is gonna get a nice fat raise to stay in Morgantown )

If Scott truly doesn't have "his guy" then he has gotta go make Wade a strong a** offer man you can't let this slip away and we can out spend NC State easily.

We are seriously getting into a realm of a possibility where I'm not shocked / think and smarter move might be of Dolson sitting down with Woodson about coming back.

I mean I wasn't a fan of McCollum per say but you start getting down into the J. Calhoun tier? I mean that dude won the the Horizon league like once in 7 years at YSU and never made a tourney. Hell if thats where we are at might as well (heres a name for ya) hire Ron Hunter at least we know he'll recruit the Sh** out if Indy ! my goodness

He doesn't need 5 stars to win and likely would do better without. The expectations aren't as high as other jobs like IU. It would be a really good hire for them. And good for the league.

Imagine how awful it would have been to watch this year's IU team play a McCollum Iowa team. The talent gap would have been maddening, especially considering how badly they would carve us up.

Come to think of it, it reminds me of how IU played Iowa with Fran...

Watching this Loyola/SLU game as we speak, Loyola scored on 12 straight possessions.

We will see who the hire ends up being. I'd love to be wrong.

But I think there's got to be a reckoning for some around here with the IU job just not being what they think it is.

I get that's hard to let go of.

More seriously McCollum seems perfect for a spot like Iowa where his D2 experience is probably great prep for recruiting and developing with fewer resources than your competitors. Not to say he couldn’t win at a higher level but if you’ve got to “moneyball” your situation he’s got a good pedigree.

DeVries might too! But I don’t know if Iowa wants to eat that buyout.
