Losing McNally (I'm sure that Woodson called him that at least once) and replacing him with a last minute 5-star who underachieved and didn't work out was a perfect metaphor for Mike Woodson's entire time at IU.

I guffawed at that comment too but I think there are plausible explanations other than “she’s wrong.”

Maybe it’s most likely she’s wrong. But if “we” doesn’t include the search firm? Maybe she’s technically correct. If IU already has its coach lined up, and that person isn’t an active coach, it could also be correct.

That actually might make sense. Bozich is certain it’s a veteran coach…and Bozich is imbedded in Louisville culture and knows Pitino. In the last few days Pitino made a statement about how the NCAA cleared him of any wrongdoing at Louisville—why talk about that now? And he previously suggested Chris Beard to IU, the only hire with more baggage than Pitino himself. I’d actually be thrilled—we would win that 6th banner.

I think his source Brad Brownell's mom. 

This is a healthy dose of recency bias. Sure, Brownell has had a wonderful couple of seasons. But the 12 before that? I'm pretty sure he was closed to getting fired a time or two. Brownell would be a better coach than Woody -- because he's a college coach and knows the college game because he's been in it for 30-plus years. But if that's the best we can do ...

There aren’t conversations with active coaches, at least not directly with them. But those coaches have helpers, and so do we. It’s one of the reasons why the pace of these things moves slowly while the season is ongoing.
