Yeah no special info here, and I know the UT insider said Knecht was down to two, but his process has been basically silent. And now Oregon takes a similar player and UT’s scholarship crunch is tight.

If we were UO fans and he hadn’t committed by this point, I think we’d be getting nervous. Probably not visiting anywhere this weekend due to coaches’ AAU commitments but I wonder what’s coming.

Hey, they were right this time.

It’s like a long episode of Punk’d with IU recruiting lately starring Maryland, Tennessee, and Michigan State.

If we could do a deep dive into those last 10 or so lost recruitments we might find where to message is missing.

 And Sparks and War…

never mind.

No ill will toward Knecht, nor really UT — I’m in favor of their success as long as it’s not at UT’s expense.

That said, I find this a surprising choice on the merits. As discussed after the Ledlum commitment, UT plays a pretty stifled, set-based offense; if you wanted to really cook IU’s a better choice. UT also returns a multi-year starter at the same spot in Vescovi, and once Ziegler’s healthy, he’ll be their full-time point guard. Barnes tends to play fewer 3 guard lineups and more two-big ones.

Even knowing Ziegler will miss substantial time, there’s clearly less PT at UT at the moment than IU.

We never know all the details but was he only gonna pick a Nike school or something?

Great points.

Maybe someone is leaving TN that we don’t know about?

Thanks. I work with folks in this age bracket and see students, athletes and otherwise, who make life-changing choices for weird/bad reasons all the time. As a result I find it tough to be overly critical of staffs absent other info — it’s pretty normal for 16-25 year olds to make even huge decisions for reasons that won’t make sense to them even months later.

Can you legitimately name the last 10 losses? The last 10 gets were Ware, Sparks, Malik, JHS, Cupps, Newton, Banks, Gunn, X, and Bates.

I don't understand the UT success this offseason.

UT averaged like 45 points a game this year. They've always been known for defense since Barnes has been there.

Always seems like these type of players break for "not us".

Even tougher when staff wants said superstar and he won’t give you the time of day. Goes both ways.

What coach did you talk to that told you how much we wanted him. Just because some do called insiders say something it doesn't mean it is true.

They averaged 70.8 points per game.  2022-23 average ppg was 67.6.  And that average is higher than Oregon’s average, the other team that Knecht strongly considered.

‘23
Jaime Kaiser, DSmithHarris, Arrington Page, TJ Power, Coen Carr?-we didn’t push I don’t think, Xavier Booker-staff couldn’t make up its mind, Kwame Evans for ‘23. Some other lighter targets. We tried hard for Page, Kaiser, Power, and early for Evans.

Portal
Couldn’t get traction in portal for Knecht, Love, TimberLake and others (Girard, Ryan, Battle). Ledlum was a primary target.

‘24
Is it too early to count Queen, Kory Bidunga, McNeeley? (I’m kidding here but ‘24 recruiting we aimed high). I love a lot of these targets.

If we find 2 starters somewhere it can all be salvaged.

Yeah, we can downplay guys after they commit to other schools, but a whole lot of guys we’ve pursued have gone elsewhere. Saying we’re being “selective” sounds like the guy at the bar making excuses for not getting any attention.
