2 true road losses to NET top 3 teams( only team in country to play 2 top 3 NET teams on the road). Can’t believe we lost another game on the road

I'm as critical as anyone but here are the bullet points:

 

- Go into game without Davis or Phinisee (not to mention Thompson, Forrester or Hunter)

- Best 2 players with 2 fouls each before the 1st media timeout

- Down double digits early and close to being blown out

- Playing in the #2 ranked team's gym

- Lose by 11 and actually win the 2nd half

- I'm ok with this but need to get Rob back for Maryland

 

P.S. only 5 turnovers I believe

We might have a chance in this one as UM’s defense is more about positioning and less about cat scratching the he’ll out of you while hoping the refs don’t call everything (Ark, Butler and Ill come to mind of opponents with that style of defense we’ve played this season). We’ll need to hit some outside shoots to loosen slashing and driving lanes though as I think UM will play off of non shooters and clog the middle. The passing between Morgan, Smith, and Romeo in the lane will need to be on point too. I think we’re looking at a rock fight unless we don’t close out to shooters properly then UM will have a field day. Their defense was spectacular early in the season. We’ll need to play our best game and defend like hell to have a chance late. We’ll also need a third offensive threat to emerge that can take some heat off Morgan and Romeo unless one goes crazy and the other has a better than average night.

Unfortunately, I think we get off to a slow start and then play them pretty even the rest of the game losing by 9-12 points.

Not a bad prediction of how things would go today. This won’t be the last game Morgan and/or Romeo will be in foul trouble in the first handful of minutes. The Big Ten loves them some Big Ten officiating.

I’m happy the team just didn’t quit and get absolutely blown out. Congrats to Arch and Co. for getting on the refs to get a few calls in the second half. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were towards the top of free throws attempted against UM this season.

We really, really need a third scorer and to get healthy. This team isn’t close to being Big Ten champs but we can be a top 5 conference team if healthy. There are a lot of good teams but only UM and MSU are at that top tier.

I don’t have a problem still being positive. I hate to lose also, but we went into a road game against arguably one of the best teams in the nation with one of the best coaches in the nation with about two thirds of a team and left with a loss by 11. It’s easy to pick apart every detail, but my god...
The slow start thing is a reality that needs fixed, but hard to argue the overall effort tonight. I was expecting worse.
Still love my Hoosiers and still like Archie.

P.S. Jordan Morgan turned it on in the 2nd!

It’s sad we never will see the true potential of this team this year with Hunter and Thompson likely out for the year. Hunter likely would’ve been the piece to keep us in contention for the B1G title. Now we look to be fighting for 3rd.

All in all, they kept the game competitive without Robert and DD, and we really need them back for the stretch ahead

Short term, we really need Rob to get right and return.  I do fear that he may take a while to get back in the groove when he returns from a conditioning and scoring standpoint.

Mid term, need to start giving some of Fitzner and McRoberts minutes to Forrester and Moore.  Duty now for the future.

Long term, another ball handler and shooter(s).

Most importantly, get healthy and stay healthy!

Last thing I’ll say..I’d be more interested to see Jager play than McBob at this point. He has looked out of sorts all season long, injuries or not. I appreciate his hustle, but his defense hasn’t been the same, and he hurts the offense more than he helps (and he doesn’t help at all)

We were really short handed so I am satisfied with this outcome. We didn’t give up, but we’re outmatched without more post players. I can’t ever remember seeing a hook utilized by a point guard so effectively. On to the next game and hope we get healthier soon.
